BENSALEM, Pa. (WPVI) — Remaining tenants at Neshaminy Mall must vacate the property by Oct. 31 as plans move forward for the mall’s eventual demolition, according to Bensalem Mayor Joe DiGirolamo.<\/p>\n
A demolition date has not been announced, and developers have not revealed plans for the future of the property.<\/p>\n
However, residents say the site’s transformation marks the end of an era for a once-bustling community destination.<\/p>\n
“It’s a shame. We used to love going there. It was like a hopping place. But now it’s like a desert,” said Linda Marczak of Bensalem.<\/p>\n
Many longtime residents recalled the mall’s popularity during its peak years.<\/p>\n
“Probably when my kids were in their teens, that was their hangout. That’s where the kids used to go on Friday night, to the movies, things like that,” said Lisa Aninsman of Bensalem.<\/p>\n
Erin Vonderlinden of Northeast Philadelphia remembered spending time there with friends.<\/p>\n
“Just going there with my friends. Just hanging out. Shopping,” Vonderlinden said, adding that favorite stores included “Bath and Body Works, Hollister, Aeropostale.”<\/p>\n
DiGirolamo said demolition will take place across most of the mall after tenants leave, although a timeline has not been announced.<\/p>\n
The property was purchased by Paramount Realty and Edgewood Properties in 2024 for $27.5 million. While no redevelopment plans have been made public, the site has been described as suitable for mixed-use development.<\/p>\n
Some former shoppers said they hope to see new amenities added to the property.<\/p>\n
“Maybe food stores or something like that,” Vonderlinden said.<\/p>\n
“Apartments and boutique-type stores, little cafes maybe,” Aninsman said.<\/p>\n
Others expressed concerns about the possibility of residential development at the site, which is located near the intersection of Route 1 and the Pennsylvania Turnpike.<\/p>\n
“There’s way too much traffic here already. If you put housing in there, it’s going to be a worse nightmare than it is right now,” said Tina, who declined to provide a last name.<\/p>\n
Several anchor tenants will remain open, including the AMC theater, Boscov’s and Barnes & Noble.<\/p>\n
A representative for Paramount Realty said the company is not releasing any plans for the property at this time.<\/p>\n
DiGirolamo also said the township plans to remove the remaining historical dioramas located inside the mall before demolition begins.<\/p>\n
