To minimize \u201cconflicts for active sorority members and potential new members going through the process,\u201d the recruitment process<\/a> has been divided into two parts. In-person events for potential new members will be hosted between Jan. 29, 2027 and Feb. 6, 2027, on the last weekend of January and the first weekend of February.<\/p>\n \u201cRecruitment schedules are reviewed each year rather than following a fixed calendar, with the goal of creating a well-organized experience that complements students\u2019 campus responsibilities and reinforces that academics remain the priority,\u201d a University Life spokesperson wrote in a statement.\u00a0<\/p>\n Panhellenic recruitment has historically concluded with \u201cBid Day\u201d in mid-January. This year, the formal process ran from Jan. 13 to Jan. 18.<\/p>\n \u201cThe Penn Panhellenic recruitment schedule is spread over two weekends this year,\u201d Penn\u2019s Panhellenic Recruitment webpage<\/a> reads. \u201cDuring the days between rounds, (following philanthropy round, until preference round) there should be no additional communication between chapters and potential new members.\u201d<\/p>\n Get the DP delivered straight to your inbox.<\/p>\n Sign Up<\/a><\/p>\n According to a source familiar with the University\u2019s Office of Fraternity and Sorority Life, this year\u2019s recruitment schedule was created after weighing several factors, including the academic calendar, when students return to campus, input from the Panhellenic Executive Board, and the time required to complete \u201cimportant preparation\u201d before the process begins.<\/p>\n The update to the recruitment process comes after the University announced revised hazing guidelines<\/a> this July. Under the new policy, hazing violations apply to on- and off-campus activities, as well as virtual activities conducted by student organizations.<\/p>\n All organizations \u2014 not just fraternities and sororities \u2014 must limit their initiation processes to six weeks, and orientation and pledging activities may not take place between midnight and 8 a.m.<\/p>\n The updated provisions also included instances of hazing that were not explicitly named in the previous version, such as \u201csexual acts\u201d and \u201cunreasonable financial demands\u201d that constitute \u201ca condition of ongoing membership.\u201d<\/p>\n All second-semester first-year, sophomore, junior, and senior students who meet the University\u2019s outlined requirements<\/a> are eligible to participate in Penn\u2019s Panhellenic recruitment this winter.\u00a0<\/p>\n Participating students will have the opportunity to become members of one of six Panhellenic sororities.
