LOWER MERION, Pa. (WPVI) — Officials with the Lower Merion School District want a federal judge to deny a request from parents that would allow them to opt their children out of using computers in class.<\/p>\n

In the court filing, the district accused the parents of “fearmongering” about technology in schools.<\/p>\n

Seven families filed a lawsuit<\/a> last month, claiming the district’s mandate that all students use internet-connected devices violates their constitutional rights to direct their children’s care, education and upbringing.<\/p>\n

The new Lower Merion policy states devices would not be issued to students until 5th grade.<\/p>\n

Some parents still want the ability to opt out of the program.<\/p>\n
