\u201cThe hunger is invisible, but it\u2019s everywhere,\u201d McKinney said while discussing the prevalence of food insecurity in the Pittsburgh area.<\/p>\n
McKinney said one in eight of our neighbors don\u2019t know when they will see their next meal or where it comes from.<\/p>\n
When it comes to children, the number is one in five.<\/p>\n
Colleen Young, the food bank\u2019s director of government affairs, said changes to the SNAP program in recent years have had an impact on the food bank, especially as the need has increased in the community.<\/p>\n
\u201cWe’re being asked to do more with less,\u201d Young said.<\/p>\n
Erin Spangler, the food bank\u2019s director of collective impact initiatives, also appeared in the episode.<\/p>\n
\u201cSouthwestern Pennsylvania is really unique,\u201d Spangler said. \u201cWe’re really a patchwork. It’s urban, and it’s rural. It’s industrial, and it’s agricultural.
