SOUTH WHITEHALL TWP., Pa. – South Whitehall Township Police have reunited victims with more than $90,000 worth of items that were stolen from storage units.<\/p>\n
Now, a man is facing charges, and police say they believe there could be more victims.<\/p>\n
An initial reported break-in at Public Storage in South Whitehall Township in June turned into two when police responded, discovering that locks and interior walls were damaged to gain access to the units. More than $15,000 worth of property was stolen.<\/p>\n
“They cut through a wall and got into the second unit. So, we had those investigations going on, and then a third one happened that we became aware of where a good amount of high-value items were taken,” said Det. Sgt. Timothy Shoudt with the South Whitehall Township Police Department.<\/p>\n
The high-value items included a 1972 Harley-Davidson, custom BMX bikes, collectibles, and other vintage, custom-made items.<\/p>\n
Police determined that many of the stolen items were being sold at the Quakertown Farmers Market.<\/p>\n
“1,000 items of his that were being sold there at that market. We had assistance from the local police department down there in recovering those items,” said Shoudt.<\/p>\n
Police say the items were being sold by Anthony Rivera. A search of Rivera’s home in Allentown turned up more stolen property.<\/p>\n
“We were able to identify the property through the assistance of the victims. We were able to seize that property, bring it back here, process it, and get it ready for the victims,” he said.<\/p>\n
Rivera is facing charges that include burglary and receiving stolen property.<\/p>\n
While $90,000 worth of items have been recovered, detectives say some of the stolen items were destroyed. Police believe there may be more victims at this location.<\/p>\n
“Some of these people with storage units, they may not check them for a year. So, there may still be more victims at this one specific location. The recommendation is to check your unit frequently and make sure you have a good lock,” he said.<\/p>\n
