On Oct. 27, 2006, Amy Winehouse<\/a> released her Grammy-winning album \u201cBack to Black.\u201d<\/a> The British singer-songwriter became a superstar with her throwback sound and instant classics like the title track and \u201cRehab.\u201d Unfortunately, her star rose and fell in a brief span of time, and she succumbed to addiction in 2011 at the age of 27. York Street Hustle,<\/a> along with a live horn section, pays tribute to the late artist<\/a> on Saturday night.\n<\/p>\n New Jersey Indie rock, Americana, soul and roots come to the waterfront for the 33rd year of the annual three-day music fest<\/a> organized by WXPN. Headliners include Portugal. The Man<\/a>, Dawes<\/a> and Little Feat, <\/a>joined by St. Paul & The Broken Bones,<\/a> Rebirth Brass Band<\/a> and Madison Cunningham<\/a>, with additional sets from S.G. Goodman<\/a>, Devon Gilfillian, <\/a>Sierra Hull<\/a> and Langhorne Slim.<\/a>\n<\/p>\n Special events Festivals this weekend range from food-dominated ones to others that are a harbinger of the fall harvest season. Here are some of the top fests around the city and \u2018burbs.\n<\/p>\n Where: Multiple venues College Fest 2026<\/p>\n Where: Multiple venues Welcome to Philly, college students! Campus Philly is offering a welcome package<\/a> that includes admission to more than 25 museums, historic sites and cultural institutions, with discounts on transit and other necessities as well. There\u2019s also Saturday\u2019s outdoor Block Party, which brings live music, DJs, drag performances, student activations and local vendors to connect students at more than 100 colleges, universities and technical schools in the Greater Philadelphia area.\n<\/p>\n Phoenixville Film Festival<\/p>\n Where: Colonial Theater, 227 Bridge St., <\/a>Phoenixville, Pa. More than 60 films are on the schedule for the annual suburban film festival<\/a>, including four world premieres and over two dozen Pennsylvania premieres, panels, workshops and filmmaker Q&As. While the festival favors emerging and indie filmmakers over A-list talent \u2014 there are films with mainstream talent, including \u201cGame of Thrones\u201d actor Owen Teale<\/a> in the short \u201cSomething Pointless.\u201d Opening night spotlights include \u201cThe Haunting of Pennhurst\u201d and \u201cSteel Wheel,\u201d a local documentary on Phoenixville\u2019s steel legacy.\n <\/p>\n Montco Jazz Festival<\/p>\n Where: Multiple venues across Montgomery County The 2026 Montco Jazz Fest<\/a> marks its fifth year with a six-day run blending live concerts, pop-up performances and community programming that highlights both local, national and international musicians. Curated by Grammy-nominated vocalist Joanna Pascale,<\/a> the 2026 festival doubles as a tribute to the centennial celebrations of Miles Davis <\/a>and John Coltrane. <\/a>\u00a0Participating artists, including Josh Lawrence,<\/a> Chelsea Reed,<\/a> The V. Shayne Frederick Trio<\/a> and more, perform at free and ticketed events from concert halls to breweries and parks throughout the county.\n<\/p>\n Philly Fashion Week Where: Multiple venues Now in its 20th year, Philly Fashion Week<\/a> winds down with the Avant-Garde Ball and Philadelphia Fashion Awards before culminating in two major runway presentations. This year\u2019s designer lineup includes new and established designers like Prajje Oscar,<\/a> Jeanett Limas<\/a> and Autumn Lin<\/a>, with additional collections from D\u2019Marsh Couture<\/a>, Byron Kyheem,<\/a> Andy Yu x Big Ocean<\/a> and KD Kollection<\/a> anchoring the runway shows.\n<\/p>\n \u2018Washington\u2019s Farewell: A Constitutional Convention Send-Off\u2019<\/p>\n Where: First Bank of the United States, 120 S. Third St.\u00a0<\/a> Back in 1787, George Washington and the Constitutional Convention delegates partied like rock stars after the convention was over. At the farewell event hosted by the First Troop Philadelphia City Cavalry,<\/a> historical records show that the bar tab at City Tavern was about 89 pounds, or $15,400. We thought only professional sports teams had bar tabs that high. \u201cWashington\u2019s Farewell: A Constitutional Convention Send-Off<\/a>\u201d is a one-night, immersive historical fundraiser that re-creates the night as a themed evening of toasts, tastings, period-inspired food and drink, and live interpretations of the original bar tab moment.\n<\/p>\n Philly Plant Crawl Where: Multiple locations Plants clear the air and make a home into a sanctuary, so much so that aficionados often consider themselves \u201cplant parents.\u201d The Philly Plant Crawl<\/a> makes adopting new leafy \u201ckids\u201d easier with a citywide, multiday scavenger hunt across 16 independent plant stores, including faves like STUMP Bella Vista,<\/a> Plant & People <\/a>and City Planter.<\/a> The shops will offer in-store specials, plant swaps, workshops and giveaways via a passport-style stamp system that includes raffle entries.\n<\/p>\n Rittenhouse Square Fine Art Show<\/p>\n Where: Rittenhouse Square\u00a0<\/a> The fall version of the biannual art show<\/a> returns to Rittenhouse Square. The outdoor art gallery features work in multiple disciplines, including printmaking, oil and acrylic, mixed media, watercolor, sculpture and more. It\u2019s not just a show with work by experienced artists, though more than 150 of them will be on the square. Since its inception in 1928, when students at the Pennsylvania Academy of Fine Arts petitioned city leaders to use the park as an art gallery, art students have always been a part of the show.\n<\/p>\n Making Time \u221e Festival<\/p>\n EDM fans, you\u2019re getting fed. Last weekend, the Breakaway Music Festival was here. This weekend, a locally and organically grown EDM gathering created by Dave Pianka that evolved from parties he started throwing 26 years ago, led by his \u201cPLURT\u201d ethos of Peace, Love, Unity, Respect and Transcendence. More than 120 EDM acts and musicians from other genres will perform. The range goes from icons like former Sonic Youth frontwoman Kim Gordon <\/a>to acts including Theo Parrish<\/a>, Skee Mask, <\/a>Daphni,<\/a> Avalon Emerson,<\/a> Smerz,<\/a> Marcel Dettmann,<\/a> John Talabot,<\/a> DJ Python<\/a> and They Are Gutting a Body of Water. <\/a>\n<\/p>\n Second Annual Philadelphia Arena Polo Championship Where: Chaumonix Equestrian Center, McCausland Arena, 98 Chaumonix Drive.\u00a0<\/a> Work to Ride<\/a> began as an organization to connect young people in challenging circumstances with horses. The second annual Philadelphia Arena Polo Championship <\/a>features current student-athletes, program alumni and competitive riders in two matches that highlight equestrian sports and the power of mentorship. Between matches, there\u2019s a festival with food trucks, local vendors, lawn games, DJ sets and interactive activations. Proceeds help support year-round programming, including riding instruction, academic support and summer youth camps at its newly renovated West Fairmount Park location.\n<\/p>\n Arts and culture Kevin Powell first made the cultural zeitgeist as a star on the debut season of the seminal 1992 MTV show \u201cThe Real World,\u201d<\/a> widely considered the precursor to today\u2019s dominant reality TV landscape. But over the past few decades, he\u2019s become a prolific writer, now on his 17th book and fourth poetry collection. In recent appearances, Powell paired readings of his work with conversations on culture and history, which he\u2019ll do here in Philadelphia<\/a> on Thursday.\n<\/p>\n \u00a0\u2018\u00a1Salsa!\u2019<\/p>\n Where: Teatro Esperanza, 4261 N. Fifth St.\u00a0<\/a> Salsa was created in the streets of New York City by musicians of Latin and African descent who combined their musical traditions to create something brand new in the 1960s and \u201870s. Celia Cruz<\/a> and H\u00e9ctor Lavoe<\/a> were its early superstars. This event <\/a>celebrates the vibrant genre with performance, teaching and social dance featuring acclaimed dancers Ashley Rivera<\/a> and Elian Gomez<\/a> alongside the Siempre Salsa All Stars,<\/a> with vocalist Carlos Sanchez and four-time Grammy winner Willy Torres.<\/a>\n<\/p>\n Philadelphia Fall Arts Fest<\/p>\n Where: Kimmel Center, 300 S. Broad St.<\/a> The annual free celebration<\/a> turns the Kimmel Center into a season-opening showcase of the city\u2019s major cultural institutions, from opera and ballet to Broadway, jazz and classical music ensembles. More than 50 regional arts organizations come together for live performances, interactive demonstrations, backstage tours and ticket promotions. It\u2019s a community day and a preview of what\u2019s coming across the Philadelphia Orchestra,<\/a> BalletX<\/a>, Opera Philadelphia<\/a> and other resident companies.\n<\/p>\n Odunde Art Sho<\/p>\n Where: JFK Plaza Love Park, Arch Street.\u00a0<\/a> Oshunbumi \u201cBumi\u201d Fernandez has more than extended the legacy of her mother, Odunde founder Lois Fernandez. One way she\u2019s done so is by curating a series of year-round events inspired by the festival. This weekend it\u2019s the latest in the Odunde Art Sho<\/a> series, an outdoor gathering of African and African-American artists displaying their work and hopefully making some sales. Many of the artists are also vendors at Odunde; this gives prospective buyers time to focus exclusively on the art.\n<\/p>\n \u2018Noguchi to Asawa: Designing Post-War America\u2019<\/p>\n The new exhibit<\/a> shows how a generation of Japanese American artists and designers \u2014 including Isamu Noguchi<\/a>, George Nakashima,<\/a> S. Neil Fujita,<\/a> Kay Sekimachi,<\/a> Leo Amino <\/a>and Ruth Asawa<\/a> \u2014 helped shape modern American design while rebuilding their lives after wartime incarceration and displacement. Their work spanned sculpture, furniture, fiber art and graphic design, creating essential pieces for which they never received their proper acknowledgement or credit. The exhibition includes additional programming like Sunday\u2019s curator conversation <\/a>and an in-person seminar on Oct. 20<\/a> and Nov. 17.<\/a>\n<\/p>\n \u2018A Christmas Carol: The Rap Musical\u2019<\/p>\n Where: Yellow Bicycle Theater, 1435 Arch St.\u00a0<\/a> A Fringe Festival remix of a literary classic reimagines Charles Dickens through hip-hop.<\/a> Ebenezer Scrooge\u2019s story becomes a 60-minute performance built on original rap and a chorus that blends traditional carols with modern flow. Created by Philadelphia artist Michael Radzwilla, <\/a>the production uses different eras of hip-hop to make\u00a0 Scrooge\u2019s redemption story more accessible to contemporary audiences.\n<\/p>\n \u2018These Shining Lives\u2019<\/p>\n Back in the 1920s, a good-paying job at a radium factory painting watch dials seemed like a great idea, especially as it was a rare opportunity for women to earn their own money. Unfortunately, the radium was toxic, leading to the untimely deaths of the female workers. \u201cThese Shining Lives,\u201d<\/a> written by Melanie Marnich,<\/a> dramatizes the real-life story<\/a> of the doomed women who sued and won to change conditions at the watch factory, something that had an impact well beyond their short lives.\n<\/p>\n \u2018Drunk Black History\u2019<\/p>\n Black history isn\u2019t always funny, but \u201cDrunk Black History<\/a>\u201d surely is. Historians, comedians and storytellers who have had a few drinks recount overlooked and under-taught moments in Black history with commentary from host Brandon Collins. <\/a>The show, which has been featured at major comedy and cultural festivals across the country, has built an earned reputation for combining education with satire while platforming guest storytellers from media, podcasting, and the arts.\n<\/p>\n Food and drink Where: Multiple locations Manayunk Restaurant Week<\/a> wraps up its week of offering prix fixe meals at $15, $25, $35 and $45 per person. The lower-tier pricing is generally for casual dining, while mid-range menus expand into two- and three-course dinners featuring dishes like Thai curries, sushi, pasta and barbecue. The $45 tier includes multicourse experiences with seafood, chef specials and dessert pairings. Participating restaurants include Bar Jawn<\/a>, Lucky\u2019s Last Chance, <\/a>Taqueria Amor,<\/a> Yanako, <\/a>New Leaf,<\/a> Mia Ragazza,<\/a> Jake & Cooper\u2019s Wine Bar,<\/a> SOMO <\/a>and The Goat\u2019s Beard.<\/a>\n<\/p>\n Saz\u00f3n Latin Food Festival<\/p>\n Latin American food, music and community culture are highlighted in this national outdoor festival<\/a> that dovetails with the start of Hispanic Heritage Month. <\/a>Curated vendors representing flavors from the Caribbean, Central America and South America are on site alongside live DJs and cultural programming. Instead of upscale, chef-endorsed food, this sabor-driven<\/a> fest prioritizes home-cooked and street food and the richness of the Latin diaspora\u2019s shared food history.\n<\/p>\n 10th Annual South Philly Sausage Fest<\/p>\n Whether it\u2019s upscale or street, Philly\u2019s food scene is legendary, and the South Philly Sausage Fest<\/a> is just one reason. What started as a community fundraiser is now a multiblock event with sausages of every conceivable kind plus live music, arts vendors, locally-produced beers and a vintage flea market. Philly School of Rock <\/a>and Joy Burkland and Her Band<\/a> are among the live performers.\n<\/p>\n Music Rufus Wainwright<\/a>\u2019s most recent studio album, \u201cFolkocracy\u201d<\/a> (2023), earned a Grammy nomination by reimagining folk standards through collaborations with Brandi Carlile, Chaka Khan, John Legend, Sheryl Crow and others. In recent years, he\u2019s also been staging large-scale symphonic presentations of his \u201cWant One\u201d<\/a> and \u201cWant Two\u201d<\/a> era, while advancing his \u201cDream Requiem\u201d<\/a> project, which premiered with major European orchestras and featured narration by Meryl Streep. Expect a setlist ranging from pop fare like \u201cCigarettes and Chocolate Milk\u201d<\/a> and \u201cPoses\u201d to orchestral works and classical reinterpretations.\n<\/p>\n Boyz II Men with The Philly Pops Boyz II Men<\/a> return to the Mann for a full-orchestra collaboration<\/a> with The Philly Pops,<\/a> blending their R&B catalog with symphonic arrangements under conductor Anthony Parnther,<\/a> in a show that highlights the group\u2019s over 30-year legacy. If you\u2019re an R&B fan, you\u2019ll hear new takes on signature hits like \u201cEnd of the Road\u201d and \u201cI\u2019ll Make Love to You,\u201d and if you\u2019re a classical fan, you\u2019ll have an entry point to the music of one of the city\u2019s most successful groups of all time.\n<\/p>\n Ed Sheeran Mop-headed British superstar Ed Sheeran <\/a>was having a pretty successful arena tour before controversy started brewing over opener Macklemore\u2019s departure from the tour. It appears that the Philly show, part of the \u201cLoop Tour\u201d<\/a> supporting Sheeran\u2019s latest album \u201cPlay\u201d (2025),<\/a> will go on, but without its opening acts. The singles \u201cAzizam,\u201d \u201cOld Phone\u201d and \u201cSapphire\u201d represent a new sound for Sheeran after his \u201cMathematics\u201d era, but it remains to be seen how, or if, the controversy will impact his career.\n<\/p>\n Mt.
