\n\t\u201cThe Summer I Turned Pretty\u201d and \u201cHadestown\u201d star Lola Tung<\/a> and \u201cRomeo + Juliet\u201d actor Daniel Bravo Hern\u00e1ndez are set to lead a benefit reading of \u201cSanctuary City<\/a>\u201d from Pulitzer Prize-winning playwright for New York Theatre Workshop<\/a>.<\/p>\n

\n\tThe Oct. 9 reading, staged by Level Forward and producer Colt Coeur, will benefit the nonprofit RAICES, which supports and promotes justice efforts on behalf of immigrants and refugees who are seeking asylum. \u201cSanctuary City\u201d revolves around two immigrant teenagers in post-9\/11 Newark, N.J. who become each other\u2019s source of sanctuary <\/p>\n

\n\t\u201cI\u2019m beyond thrilled to be sharing Sanctuary City in NYC again, home to so many souls who daily live the experiences of these characters \u2014 and far, far beyond,\u201d Majok said. \u201cI\u2019m exceedingly proud to be coming together in support and admiration of RAICES, one of our most vital national organizations, fighting for the American ideals of life, liberty and justice for all by defending immigrants\u2019 rights. Their work is essential always, but especially at this crucial time. This play is a love letter to friendship and ambition despite the odds, and the working class immigrant\u2019s dream of a full, expansive life in their own homes.\u201d<\/p>\n

\n\tNew York Theatre Workshop produced the original Off Broadway production of \u201cSanctuary City\u201d in 2020.<\/p>\n

\n\t\u201cBecause stories change the world, we\u2019re bringing \u2018Sanctuary City\u2019 back, at a time when change is
desperately needed. \u2018Sanctuary City\u2019 reflects our reality, and wedges open a window view of what
can be. Artists are standing up. Audiences are standing up. Service organizations defending
immigrant rights are standing up. Together, through imagination, creativity and collective action,
we rise,\u201d said Level Forward.<\/p>\n

\n\tTung broke through with her role in Amazon Prime Video\u2019s \u201cThe Summer I Turned Pretty\u201d series. She also had a run as a star of Broadway\u2019s \u201cHadestown.\u201d She was on screen this year with the Lili Reinhart indie \u201cForbidden Fruits\u201d and appeared in \u201cChasing Summer,\u201d from filmmaker Josephine Decker. Tung recently completed production on \u201cThe Young People,\u201d for distributor Neon. It was directed by Osgood Perkins and co-starred Nicole Kidman and Nico Parker. Tung at present is filming Halina Reijn\u2019s upcoming A24 film \u201cPlease,\u201d with Gracie Abrams and Connor Storrie.<\/p>\n

\n\tHernandez is a New York stage veteran known for appearing in such production as Off Broadway\u2019s \u201cMuch Ado about Nothing,\u201d \u201cSpread\u201d and \u201cRomeo and Juliet\u201d (via Shakespeare in the Park).<\/p>\n
