{"id":288175,"date":"2026-09-17T14:30:08","date_gmt":"2026-09-17T14:30:08","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/us-pa\/288175\/"},"modified":"2026-09-17T14:30:08","modified_gmt":"2026-09-17T14:30:08","slug":"warning-period-over-ticketing-begins-in-expanded-smart-loading-zones-in-center-city","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/us-pa\/288175\/","title":{"rendered":"Warning period over: Ticketing begins in expanded smart loading zones in Center City"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>PHILADELPHIA (KYW Newsradio) \u2014 The warning period is officially over, and drivers will start getting tickets for parking in the newest smart loading zones in Center City.<\/p>\n<p>Last month, the Philadelphia Parking Authority (PPA) <a href=\"https:\/\/www.audacy.com\/kywnewsradio\/news\/local\/ppa-smart-loading-zones-expand\" target=\"_self\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\">added 30 new smart loading zones<\/a> to the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.audacy.com\/kywnewsradio\/news\/local\/new-ppa-automated-system-paid-loading-zones\" target=\"_self\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\">22 that were already in place<\/a>. The newest zones are located between Bainbridge and Spring Garden streets. <\/p>\n<p>\u201cWe looked at existing loading zones where we see the most activity with loading and unloading,\u201d said Corrine O\u2019Connor, PPA deputy executive director. <\/p>\n<p>Those zones were converted from the regular 30-minute loading zones to smart loading zones, which have license plate-reading cameras. The signs on the curb for the smart loading zones say \u201cregistration required,\u201d highlighted in purple. <\/p>\n<p>Delivery drivers and companies who are pre-registered with the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.curbpass.io\/philly?utm_source=chatgpt.com\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer nofollow\" target=\"_blank\">CurbPass program<\/a> pay 10 cents a minute to park in those zones. If they hang on too long \u2014 if they park for more than an hour \u2014 they will get a ticket for $51.<\/p>\n<p>O\u2019Connor said around 49,000 people have signed up for the CurbPass program. The vast majority \u2014 about 41,000 \u2014 are individuals who use regular vehicles for pickups, drop-offs and smaller deliveries. The rest have vehicle fleets with companies that regularly make deliveries in Center City.<\/p>\n<p>Drivers who are not registered can park in those zones for free for three minutes. If they stay in the zone longer, they will receive a $51 fine. It will cost more \u2014 $76 \u2014 for those who double park.<\/p>\n<p>The program, which has been around <a href=\"https:\/\/www.audacy.com\/kywnewsradio\/news\/local\/ppa-smart-loading-zones-expand\" target=\"_self\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\">since May 2025<\/a>, was established in response to the surge in commercial deliveries and the increased congestion, the PPA said. <\/p>\n<p>Officials said the program has been successful; there has been more turnover at the loading zones and improved traffic flow.
