Whom can you trust in 8th District race?<\/p>\n
Editor: A recent letter stated the writer pays less for gas now than he did in 2022 (\u201cNot buying economic crisis,\u201d Sept. 2). In NEPA, gas did spike to over $5 that year, but the national average price for regular gas in 2002 was $3.95. The average presently is $4.19 (lowest). I aced math in school, and I understand that when prices are above that, they are higher, not lower.<\/p>\n
This is just one example of the claims being thrown around in this midterm election.<\/p>\n
Rob Bresnahan says he supports banning Congressional stock trading. Yet he has made more than 600 trades worth millions in assets while serving in Congress. Now he supports legislation restricting members of Congress from buying individual stocks.<\/p>\n
He also talks about rooting out \u201cfraud, waste and abuse\u201d while protecting health care. Yet he voted for the federal budget bill that made major changes to Medicaid and SNAP. Meanwhile, families continue struggling with grocery costs. The same letter said the writer\u2019s grocery bills did not go up. I can tell you mine did \u2014 and I am frugal.<\/p>\n
Even the Netherlands recently shifted billions of dollars in gold reserves from New York and Ottawa to London, citing geopolitical unrest, crisis preparedness and easier access to its reserves.<\/p>\n
We were told the \u201cswamp\u201d would be drained. It seems to have gotten larger.<\/p>\n
This is why I am backing Paige Cognetti. During her administration, Scranton emerged from Pennsylvania\u2019s Act 47 financial-distress program after three decades, and its credit rating has risen to investment grade.<\/p>\n
So, who do I trust? Someone who made hundreds of stock trades while serving in Congress before supporting restrictions on the practice \u2014 or someone whose record in Scranton can be examined?<\/p>\n
For me, the answer is clear.<\/p>\n
