A Scranton man accused of leading police on a high-speed chase in April was arrested more than a month later in Big Run, Pennsylvania \u2014 nearly 200 miles away.<\/p>\n
On April 28, officers initially pulled over Amir Hunter during a traffic stop on Main Street in Carbondale after receiving a tip from a confidential informant about a group \u201crolling through town\u201d in a silver Dodge Challenger with West Virginia tags and guns in the trunk, according to a criminal complaint.<\/p>\n
Officers spotted the vehicle driving erratically and conducted a stop on North Main Street with Hunter behind the wheel.<\/p>\n
As police questioned Hunter and his two passengers, officers spotted a gun in a pants leg of the front-seat passenger, according to the complaint.<\/p>\n
A struggle ensued, someone yelled \u201cgun,\u201d and a Carbondale Police Department officer discharged their service weapon, firing one round. No one was struck or injured.<\/p>\n
Passengers Phillip DeBarry and Qu\u2019Ran Na\u2019Sir Baskerville then resisted police, according to officers. Baskerville attempted to pull away from officers before being handcuffed. DeBarry fled on foot and was taken into custody shortly after in the Lackawanna River under the Seventh Avenue bridge near Dunkin\u2019.<\/p>\n
Hunter reentered the vehicle and sped off toward Scranton, leading officers on a high-speed chase, according to the complaint.<\/p>\n
Police pursued Hunter on Route 6 in Carbondale, through Mayfield and Archbald, and onto the Casey Highway. He continued onto the Biden Expressway and then onto Mulberry Street in Scranton.<\/p>\n
Hunter ultimately crashed into another vehicle at Mulberry Street and Taylor Avenue before fleeing on foot.<\/p>\n
A warrant was issued for Hunter, but local officers were unable to locate him despite an extensive search, according to the complaint.<\/p>\n
On June 8, the U.S. Marshals Service Western Pennsylvania Fugitive Task Force arrested Hunter based on information provided by Detective Martin Connors of Lackawanna County.<\/p>\n
Officers located Hunter at a residence in Big Run, Jefferson County, after spotting him walking a dog outside the building.<\/p>\n
Hunter was jailed in Jefferson County before being transported to the Lackawanna County Prison. He was arraigned Wednesday before District Judge Alyce Farrell on a felony charge of flight to avoid apprehension.<\/p>\n
Hunter remains at the Lackawanna County Prison in lieu of $20,000 bail.
