READING, Pa. \u2013 The Berks County Board of Elections voted Thursday to retain the current compensation rates for poll workers for the November general election.<\/p>\n
Poll workers and interpreters will continue to receive $200 for working on Election Day, plus $30 for attending a training, which is held from Sept. 30 through Oct. 31.<\/p>\n
The judge of elections and the interpreters receive $55 for attending the training.<\/p>\n
In another matter, the board determined to keep the polling place for Cumru Township\u2019s 5th\u00a0precinct at Mosaic Church, 332 Wyomissing Ave., Shillington.<\/p>\n
Anne Norton, director of elections, said a poll worker has complained after previous elections that the unlined parking lot is insufficient at the church.<\/p>\n
She estimated there may be 30 spaces depending on how people park, plus some overflow parking on the grass.<\/p>\n
Norton said the election staff has looked at moving the location to the County\u2019s South Campus in Mohnton, but that has raised some legal questions about accessibility and about designating a polling place in an office building occupied by an elected official.<\/p>\n
County Commissioner Christian Leinbach said if the county took the matter seriously, saying there would be numerous violations throughout the county.<\/p>\n
Leinbach said the church situation is not ideal, and better locations exist, but making a move now could prove to be too complicated.<\/p>\n
