Swift police action helped save the life of a shooting victim in Darby, the borough police chief said Wednesday.<\/p>\n
Darby police and assisting jurisdictions responded to a shooting call on Tuesday shortly after 3:30 p.m. in the 400 block of Darby Terrace.<\/p>\n
Police radio traffic showed that it took time to get to the victim, who was in his house with dogs that were not letting officers inside.<\/p>\n
Borough Police Chief Joseph Gabe Jr. said an adult male was shot, however police were delayed from assisting the victim by two vicious dogs that chased officers.<\/p>\n
Police were finally able to move up the street and utilized a rear alley to reach the victim, who had multiple injuries to the legs.<\/p>\n
Gabe described body camera footage that showed officers reaching the victim to provide lifesaving techniques.<\/p>\n
\u201cIt\u2019s clear that the quick actions of these two officers, they were able to apply two tourniquets on each of the victims legs. After applying the tourniquets, they had to carry the victim in a narrow alley, due to him not being able to walk, to EMS at the end of the block. Due to their swift actions, they more than likely saved the victims life,\u201d Gabe said in an email.<\/p>\n
The victim was transported by EMS to Penn Presbyterian Medical Center and remained in stable condition.<\/p>\n
Gabe said police have not yet made an arrest, but are making progress.<\/p>\n
A relative or friend of the victim came to the house to take the dogs away, so police could \u201cclear\u201d the residence.<\/p>\n
A description of a shooter was broadcast and a male was stopped nearby but it was unclear whether that was the gunman.<\/p>\n
