LUZERNE COUNTY, Pa. \u2014 Every step is a step towards recovery for Walter Maros, a patient at Allied Services Rehab Hospital near Wilkes-Barre. Each minute on the Rise & Walk means Maros is one stride closer to getting back to his daily life.\u00a0<\/p>\n
“Well, I live alone, so I have to clean, I have to cook, I have to do, I’m the housewife, I’m the maid, I’m the chauffeur. You name it, I’m it,” Maros said.\u00a0<\/p>\n

That sense of hope and encouragement is what the Rise & Walk is giving many patients and physical therapists here.<\/p>\n
As part of National Rehabilitation Awareness Week, workers are showcasing what the Rise & Walk can do. The machine is an advanced 3-in-1 robotic rehabilitation system for adult and pediatric patients with neurological and mobility impairments.<\/p>\n
Rosa Bartoletti is a physical therapist at Allied Services Rehab Hospital. “The patients may be limited in how far they can go, how much they can do, depending on what their deficits are, so this provides support for them and us and allows them to get a lot more steps in, a lot more reps in, or even just standing taller, which can’t necessarily always be achieved when you’re just over ground,” Bartoletti said.\u00a0<\/p>\n
For Maros, the machine guides his every step while letting him put in the work to move.<\/p>\n
Bartoletti says it allows him to stand taller and walk longer than he would without the additional support and comfort the Rise & Walk provides, potentially speeding up his recovery process\u00a0<\/p>\n
“He has about 60 to 90 minutes a day with physical therapy, so if 10 minutes of the time is spent on this, he’s getting 10 times the steps that he would be getting over ground in that same amount of time,” Bartoletti said.\u00a0<\/p>\n
