Our store escalators are serviced on a regular basis and generally we experience good reliability.”

Flanigan continued, “sometimes repairs are unsuccessful, or new issues present themselves, in which case further repair orders are immediately submitted by the store, new parts ordered where necessary, and further repairs then carried out. In the event the service engineers advise that repair is unlikely to restore the reliability of the escalator, we will install new ones, with, at present, long lead times on new installations of generally over six months.”

Flanigan said that engineers have recommended a repair for the escalator in the Erie store, and it is expected to be fixed to full working order. The timing of the work order completion remains unknown according to Barnes & Noble.

Assistance still provided at Barnes & Noble

There are other ways of going from floor to floor when visiting Barnes and Noble.

Flanigan wrote that “customers continue to have access to the store by elevator and stairs, and our booksellers are happy to assist customers as needed.”

The store has an elevator that provides access to the second floor of the store. Barnes & Noble uses a commercial hydraulic lift that can support 2,500 pounds and safely hold about 10 to 12 people.

Customers that are in need of further assistance can contact the Erie Barnes & Noble at 814-864-6300.

Contact Nicholas Sorensen at Nsorensen@usatodayco.com.

This article originally appeared on Erie Times-News: Up escalator is down at Erie Barnes & Noble.
