A possible measles exposure was reported at the Children’s Hospital of Philadelphia last week, according to the city’s Department of Public Health. <\/p>\n
Officials said that the possible exposure happened at the CHOP building located at 3401 Civic Center Boulevard on Friday, Sept. 11 at various times throughout the day including:<\/p>\n
Between 9:30 a.m. and 4:15 p.m. at NICU West<\/p>\n
Between 9:30 a.m. and 4:15 p.m. at NICU West Family Lounge<\/p>\n
Between 9:30 a.m. and 4:15 p.m. at the CHOP Atrium<\/p>\n
Between 12:05 p.m. and 2:45 p.m. at the CHOP Main Cafeteria<\/p>\n
Officials are working to make sure that all infants in CHOP’s NICU get a “preventative antibody product” that will help prevent them from contracting measles and spreading it. <\/p>\n
Symptoms of measles include:<\/p>\n
fever<\/p>\n
runny nose<\/p>\n
cough<\/p>\n
red, watery eyes<\/p>\n
rash<\/p>\n
For some who get measles, it could be serious and lead pneumonia, brain infection and death.<\/p>\n
“Given the ongoing outbreaks in Pennsylvania and other places, it is imperative that everyone who is not up to date on their MMR vaccine gets their vaccine as soon as possible. Remember, this is not just about protecting yourself, it\u2019s about protecting our most vulnerable Philadelphians,” Health Commissioner Dr. Palak Raval-Nelson said. <\/p>\n
