In this week’s 16 To The Rescue we meet a group of cats rescued from a hoarding situation a few months ago who are just now ready for adoption.<\/p>\n

SCRANTON, Pa. \u2014 In this week’s 16 To The Rescue, we meet a group of cats rescued from a hoarding situation a few months ago.\u00a0<\/p>\n

“They were in pretty horrific circumstances, and they are all so sweet. Some of them are shyer than others, but honestly, who can blame them? They’re all really sweet, really trusting, and really loving despite their circumstances,” said Katrina Organ, St. Cats and Dogs of Nay Aug Zoo.\u00a0<\/p>\n

\n 16 To The Rescue: Blind cat crew at St. Cats & Dogs of Nay Aug Zoo

Rescue workers call them the ‘blind cat crew;’ they were rescued back in March and brought to live at St. Cats and Dogs of Nay Aug Zoo in Scranton.\u00a0<\/p>\n

“Folks may be familiar with the story from the news; it was a pretty terrible hoarding situation, a man with severe mental health issues. These cats were severely malnourished. As a result of malnutrition and not getting the vitamins they need, they are all blind,” Organ said.\u00a0<\/p>\n

And rescue workers with St. Cats say they will probably be blind forever, but it’s not stopping any of them. They run around, they play with each other and on their own, and they just know when they’re about to get some food or cuddles. All of the cats rescued in the hoarding situation are young adults, probably between about 2 and 4 years old. Even though they were rescued in March, they are just now ready for adoption.\u00a0<\/p>\n

“So it was quite a long process to rehabilitate them; they were extremely emaciated when they came in, to the point where we were feeding them very small portions several times a day, so we didn’t develop other complications. They still will need controlled feeding probably for life,” said Organ.\u00a0<\/p>\n

So volunteers at St. Cats feed them a few times a day with slow feeders. They say it will probably never be a situation where you can leave food out for them. But they’ve all been cleared medically now and are ready for their forever homes. They use their litter box well; they can go to a home with other cats and calmer dogs.\u00a0<\/p>\n

“Kids who can be taught to approach loudly and pet them slowly; adults, older adults. They adapt quite well, and they walk around quite well. There’s not really many limitations to where they can go,” said Organ.\u00a0<\/p>\n

Really all they’re looking for is food and love. And rescue workers say adopting a blind cat like any of these boys can be beyond rewarding.\u00a0<\/p>\n

“Animals can be grateful. I think they are grateful to be here and have food in their belly and to get pets. I think they would be really grateful to have a home where they are loved,” Organ said.\u00a0<\/p>\n
