Wilkes\u00a0Barre, PA\u00a0\u2013 The Comets\u00a0skated into the Mohegan Arena\u00a0for the first time this season and\u00a0were shut out\u00a0by a score of\u00a04-0\u00a0by the Wilkes-Barre\/Scranton Penguins.\u00a0<\/p>\n
The Penguins came out with a\u00a0good pace and owned the first four shots of the game, but the Comets settled in and drew a penalty at the 10:08 mark of the first period when Tristan Broz was called for tripping.\u00a0Despite some great chances on the power play, Penguins\u2019 netminder Maxim Pavlenko kept the Comets off the board. The Penguins got\u00a0an\u00a0opportunity on the power play a few minutes later after\u00a0Mike Hardman was called for tripping. Wilkes-Barre\/Scranton forward Aaron\u00a0Huglen\u00a0made a nice move in the slot and set up Atley Calvert for a backdoor tap in to give the Penguins\u00a0a\u00a01-0 lead at the 15:08 mark.\u00a0\u00a0<\/p>\n
Wilkes-Barre\/Scranton\u00a0continued\u00a0its\u00a0strong play in the second period when Mathieu De St. Phalle\u00a0added an insurance goal after swatting home a rebound at the 5:51 mark of the period to make it 2-0 on his second goal of the season.\u00a0The Comets would get another power play shortly thereafter and despite some great zone time,\u00a0Wilkes-Barre did a terrific job\u00a0getting in shooting lanes and prevented the Comets from getting many of their shots through to Pavlenko.\u00a0<\/p>\n
The Penguins would strike again later in the period. After a nice transition through the neutral zone, Valtteri Puustinen\u00a0found Sam Poulin in the left circle who beat Jakub Malek low glove side to make it 3-0 at the 13:06 mark of the second on Poulin\u2019s\u00a0fifth of the year.\u00a0<\/p>\n
The Comets were unfortunately unable to manufacture a goal in the third\u00a0period,\u00a0and the Penguins added an empty-net goal from Tristan Broz at the 17:23 mark to make it 4-0 and that was the final\u00a0score.\u00a0The Penguins outshot the Comets 27-20.\u00a0Maxim Pavlenko earned the shutout in his first\u00a0career\u00a0AHL start. Jakub Malek made 23 saves in net for the Comets.\u00a0\u00a0<\/p>\n
