Mixteca brings the spirit of agave to drinks and dining with indoor-outdoor vibes
Mixteca in Fishtown is an agave-focused cocktail bar and taqueria with a huge outdoor patio, a lounge, and a loft space – in addition to the massive bar that greets guests as they walk in. The business partners behind the popular New York City Bar Please Don’t Tell both have James Beard honors in their background as bartenders, and Jeff Bell and Victor Lopez chose Philly as their second location for Mixteca, which started as a pop-up at Coachella, then opened it’s first brick and mortar in 2025. Mixteca is open every day, including the wee hours on weekends.<\/p>\n

Reminiscent of a German beer hall the space features 24 taps with an array of beers created by brewmaster Ryan Seiz. The former MLB player found a passion for brewing after his career and has turned that into a business.<\/p>\n The taproom has a wrap-around porch with views of the Philadelphia skyline. It overlooks the beer garden where the brewery hoists cornhole leagues and music festivals. It started as a hobby for founder Ryan Krill and has evolved into a massive operation with award-winning brews.<\/p>\n The taproom offers guests a chance to sample to wide variety of beers made at the brewery. The Cape May IPA is the original beer brewed by the founders and is still the most popular beer they sell. The location also offers an outdoor beer garden featuring live music. There is also the Brewtique, where guests can find merchandise and takeout for every style of beer they brew.<\/p>\n The evolution of Cape May Brewing has been aided by WSFS Bank, a long-term partner for the company, as they expanded into a 15,000-square-foot production facility. Chang, and principal oboist, Philippe Tondre.<\/p>\n The Philadelphia Orchestra 2026-27 Season<\/a><\/p>\n Kimmel Center’s Marion Anderson Hall “Horsegirl & Cowdaddy” on stage September 22 – October 4 at the Wilma Theater<\/p>\n “Horsegirl & Cowdaddy” follows the journey of one father and daughter’s relationship.<\/p>\n “It’s about a trans woman living with her dad in rural Pennsylvania,” says DJ Hills, playwright of “Horsegirl & Cowdaddy.”<\/p>\n Lindsay Smiling, the newly named solo artistic director of the Wilma Theater, stars as Cowdaddy.<\/p>\n “They are living a simple life,” says Smiling. “Have their day-to-day routines and have a deep love for each other.”<\/p>\n Cowdaddy’s horse-loving daughter is played by actress Samora de la Brisa, formerly known as Samora la Perdida.<\/p>\n “Horses to her represent this free, wild, strong being. Things that she’s learning to embrace in her real life,” says de la Brisa.<\/p>\n The rhythm of their life is disrupted when Horsegirl meets Bethel.<\/p>\n “A young transmasculine teacher comes into town,” she says.<\/p>\n “And she falls head over heels for this new person,” says Adil Mansoor, director of “Horsegirl & Cowdaddy.” “And it shakes up her dynamic with her father.”<\/p>\n “And when Bethel asks Horsegirl, ‘Is there anything else you want out of your life?’ It really spurs, no pun intended, this other transformation,” says de la Brisa.<\/p>\n “She turns into a horse,” says Hills.<\/p>\n Philadelphia-based artists, Rebecca Kanach and Erik Ruin, bring Horsegirl to life with costumes and shadow puppets, respectively.<\/p>\n “And in the midst of that is this, like, magical transformation,” says Mansoor. “We get to witness these three people learn a lot about themselves across a summer.”<\/p>\n “The heart of this story really is about, ‘Where do you belong? Where are you gonna be happy?'” says Smiling. “And the love that complicates that question.”<\/p>\n The play also challenges stereotypes.<\/p>\n “And sort of asks, like, why people assume that, specifically queer and trans people, have to leave these rural spaces in order to be their full selves,” says Hills.<\/p>\n “Her transformation into a horse isn’t a metaphor for gender. It’s a metaphor for finding home in this trans body in rural America, which is absolutely possible,” says de la Brisa.<\/p>\n “Horsegirl & Cowdaddy”<\/a> runs September 22 to October 4, 2026, at the Wilma Theater. Early fall is a great season to visit farmers markets, and this roundup introduces viewers to three in the Philly metro area. The Media Farmers Market is a ‘culinary-focused’ market, held year-round on Sundays. It has been running for 17 years. The Jenkintown Farmers Market is held every Thursday from 3pm to 7pm, in the parking lot of the town library. The market has been going for 4 years, and gives guests a jump on weekend errands. Across the bridge in South Jersey, The Collingswood Farmers Market has been running for 26 years, and is every Saturday morning from May through November.
