\t\t\tOBITUARY\t\t<\/p>\n
Anita Marie Lahey, 68, a Scranton native, passed away peacefully on August 29, 2026, in Punta Gorda.<\/p>\n
\nAnita was born on January 15, 1958, in Scranton, PA, to the late William Demas and the late Ida M. (Viccica) Demas Evans. She grew up in Scranton and graduated from Scranton Central High School before going on to become a Licensed Practical Nurse (LPN).<\/p>\n
\nOn September 23, 1978, Anita married her soulmate and high school sweetheart, James F. Lahey. Together they shared almost 48 years of marriage. Anita and James made their home in Niantic, CT. Anita worked as a part-time nurse at Lawrence and Memorial Hospital, and as a substitute nurse at Niantic Center School. She also worked as a classroom nurse with LEARN. She cherished raising her two sons and being there for her family. She was always there for her friends as a kind, generous, empathetic person, and was always available for anyone in need; above all she always knew how to throw a fantastic party. In 2006, Anita and James became snowbirds in Punta Gorda, FL, and made it their full-time home in 2020.<\/p>\n
\nAnita loved gardening, cooking, shopping, and was an avid reader. She made every Christmas magical and was famous for her prolific and delicious cookie baking. She was also a loving dog mom to Sarabell and Bailey, both of whom predeceased her. Above all, she treasured time with her family and traveling with her husband.<\/p>\n
\nAnita\u2019s love for people showed in her many ways of volunteering including her work with the PTAs in East Lyme and as Niantic Center School PTA President. She gave generously of her time to charities like Care and Share as well as to conservation efforts with Save the Hills in Niantic. She believed in giving back and provided a wonderful example to all those around her.<\/p>\n
\nAnita is survived by her husband, James F. Lahey; her sons, James M. Lahey (Alisa) and Robert P. Lahey (Noelle); her granddaughters, Alexandra, 9, and Alicia, 24, who were the light of her life; her stepfather, Harry Evans; her siblings, Linda Demas Sellitti (Charles), William R.
