Things have come full circle for one longtime Erie business owner. After decades of serving customers throughout the region, Yaple’s Vacuum Cleaner Centers has officially settled into a new home in East Erie, a location that carries special meaning for owner Doug Yaple and his family.

The building sits on property that was once home to the Yaple family’s dairy business, making the move a return to familiar ground. Inside, visitors can find pieces of family history throughout the showroom, including collectibles from Yaple’s Dairy and keepsake photos that celebrate generations of entrepreneurship.

The vacuum business itself has a long history in Erie. For nearly 70 years, Yaple’s Vacuum Cleaner Centers has operated from several locations across the city, most recently on East 38th Street, where generations of customers relied on the store for vacuum sales, service and repairs.

While that location was important to the business, owning the new building makes this chapter especially meaningful for Yaple.

The new showroom is now the company’s sole location and continues to offer the same personalized service customers have come to expect. Family remains at the heart of the operation. Doug’s son, Kyle Yaple, serves as general manager and handles repairs on the wide variety of vacuum cleaners brought in by customers each day.

The family’s next generation is already getting involved as well. Kyle’s 10-year-old son, Fenton, proudly helps around the store, carrying on a tradition that spans decades.

Customers will also recognize familiar faces behind the counter, including Cheryl, who has been with the company since 2002.

The new space features an extensive selection of vacuum cleaners and accessories for both carpets and hard-surface flooring. Historic vacuum models are displayed throughout the showroom, highlighting how cleaning technology has evolved over the years. Modern innovations are also on display, including advanced floor-cleaning machines that combine vacuuming and washing capabilities in a single unit.

In the back, a warehouse provides space for storing inventory and collecting vacuum brands that can later be refurbished and resold.

For Doug Yaple, the new location represents more than just a business move. It is a continuation of a family legacy that has served Erie residents for generations while helping customers find products and services that best fit their needs.

A formal ribbon-cutting ceremony is scheduled for Wednesday, as the Erie Regional Chamber officially welcomes Yaple’s Vacuum Cleaner Centers to its new home.
