WEXFORD, Pa. \u2014 A former Pitt quarterback was at the AHN Wexford Hospital on Friday morning when he reportedly decided to steal a box truck from the valet area. It remains unclear exactly why he was here in the first place and what motivated him to steal the truck.<\/p>\n
\u201cYeah, I\u2019m not sure what was going through his mind,\u201d Deborah Clager said. <\/p>\n
Deborah Clager with Rental Time Rentals in Gibsonia still can\u2019t believe what happened Friday morning when she got a call from one of her drivers who was picking up tables and chairs from the AHN Wexford hospital. <\/p>\n
\u201cHe\u2019s like, \u2018The truck was stolen.\u2019 And I was like\u2026’What?\u2019 I thought he was joking. I was like, \u2018Oh, sure it was – you\u2019re at AHN Wexford,\u2019” Clager explained.<\/p>\n
While she was on the phone with him and Highmark Police officers, she was able to track the truck in real time. <\/p>\n
She explained, \u201cWe have a tracking app on it, so I just kept refreshing and telling them play by play where it\u2019s at. I\u2019m like, it\u2019s passing this street. It\u2019s passing this street.\u201d <\/p>\n
Within the hour, Cranberry Township police pulled the box truck over on Family Road at the Victory Church parking area. <\/p>\n
Philip Jurkovec, 26, was taken into police custody. Jurkovec played high school football for Pine Richland. He went on to play football at Notre Dame and Boston College. In 2023, Jurkovec transferred to the University of Pittsburgh, where he was the quarterback for a brief time.<\/p>\n
\u201cI still can\u2019t believe it happened; it was just unbelievable,\u201d Clager added. <\/p>\n
Clager says she\u2019s trying to understand what motivated the former college athlete to steal the truck that she says doesn\u2019t go faster than 60 miles per hour.<\/p>\n
\u201cNo idea why. I mean, of all the cars around there, a box truck would not have been my first choice,\u201d she said.<\/p>\n
She says nothing was damaged or taken and that they were able to get the truck back. Jurkovec is in the Allegheny County Jail where court records say he couldn\u2019t post his $25,000 bond.<\/p>\n
