On Saturday, Sept. 26, Performance Music at The University of Scranton<\/a> will host the Anderson Twins Sextet performing their acclaimed program \u201cSwingin\u2019 the Classics,”\u00a0which reimagines staples of the European classical repertoire into fresh swing era jazz. The Family Weekend Concert,<\/a> which will also include an appearance by The University of Scranton Concert Choir with the sextet, begins at 7:30 p.m. in the Houlihan-McLean Center, Mulberry Street and Jefferson Avenue, downtown Scranton. Admission is free, the concert is open to the public, and seating is on a first-come, first-seated basis.<\/p>\n

\u201cIt is such a joy to welcome Will and Pete back to Scranton to continue to share their musicianship and creative approach to programming with our students, our campus and our community,” said\u00a0Janelle Decker,\u00a0Performance Music executive director.<\/p>\n

\u201cWill and Pete first performed here with Loren Schoenberg and the National Jazz Museum in Harlem All-Stars in 2008 and have returned to the university as guest artists and clinicians so many times \u2014 and with such a variety of terrific programs \u2014 that they truly feel like sons of Scranton,” added\u00a0Cheryl Y. Boga, artistic director of Performance Music.

Identical twins Peter\u202fand Will Anderson\u202fare two of the most extraordinary jazz woodwind players today. Hailed by The New York Times as \u201cvirtuosos on clarinet and saxophone,” they were born and raised in the Washington, D.C., area and moved to New York City to attend The Juilliard School.\u202fThey\u2019ve performed with the Jazz at Lincoln Center Orchestra, Vanguard Jazz Orchestra, Wycliffe Gordon, Cecile McLorin Salvant, Paquito D\u2019Rivera, Wynton Marsalis, and with Vince Giordano and The Nighthawks, with whom they can be heard on the 2014 GRAMMY-winning soundtrack of HBO\u2019s\u202fBoardwalk Empire.\u202fThey\u2019ve headlined at Carnegie Hall,\u202fThe\u202fBlue Note,\u202fJazz at Lincoln Center, Kennedy Center, New Orleans Jazz Festival, Feinstein\u2019s 54 Below,\u202fBlues Alley, Birdland,\u202fand live on\u202fGarrison Keillor\u2019s\u202fPrairie Home Companion\u202fradio program, and have performed in over 40 U.S. states, throughout Brazil, Japan, the U.K., and six times in NYC\u2019s\u202ffamed\u202fHighlights in Jazz\u202fseries.<\/p>\n

The Andersons’ screen credits include\u202fRevolutionary Road, Killers of the Flower Moon, Boardwalk Empire\u00a0and\u202fThe Marvelous Ms. Maisel.\u202fThey performed with the Jazz at Lincoln Center All-Stars in\u202fAfter Midnight, which ran on Broadway from 2013-2014 and featured Vanessa Williams, KD Lang, Fantasia Barrino and Patti Labelle.\u202fIn 2017, the Andersons directed\u202f\u201cThe Fabulous Dorsey Brothers\u201d\u202fin Jazz at Lincoln Center\u2019s Appel Room, narrated by\u202fThe Wire\u202fand\u202fTreme\u202factor, Clarke Peters.<\/p>\n
