Returning Contenders

– Shady Side Academy senior Meriwether McCargo looks to become the second WPIAL player ever to win four consecutive girls’ singles titles. Laura Greb was the only girls’ tennis player to accomplish the feat, winning four straight titles from 2017–2020 at Knoch.

– Cami Fisher returns to the 2026 bracket after winning the consolation match last season. Fisher looks to become just the second Bethel Park athlete to win a WPIAL girls’ singles title.

– Avery Allan looks to take hold of the 2A bracket in her junior season after falling short last year against three-time WPIAL champion Gabriella Dusi in the championship match. Allan is looking to become the first Quaker Valley player to win a singles title since 2012.

– Veronica Zinski (Winchester Thurston) and Mollie Schlichter (Oakland Catholic) both return to the 2A bracket after facing off in last year’s consolation match, where Schlichter won, 6-2, 6-2. Both players are looking to become the first-ever singles champion from their respective schools.

Newcomers A Plenty
– 10 newcomers are in the 2026 3A Singles bracket, highlighted by North Allegheny’s Winni Hayward, who won a section title this season, catapulting her to the No. 4 seed in the 3A bracket.
– A lot of familiar faces return in Class 2A, but the young core is led by Quaker Valley freshman Caitlin Hart, who makes her first postseason bracket appearance as the No. 6 seed.

WPIAL Fun Fact: There hasn’t been a freshman girls’ tennis singles winner since 2023 (Meriwether McCargo, SSA)
