The off-duty Philadelphia police officer accused of fatally shooting his uncle in a Northampton County home over the summer faces trial in county court.<\/p>\n
Following a preliminary hearing, a district judge on Monday determined there was enough evidence for Kenroy Cummings, 25, to face trial in the July 24 killing of Shakair Moncrieffe, District Attorney Stephen Baratta said.<\/p>\n
Moncrieffe was fatally shot in a home in the 1200 block of Old Gate Road in Allen Township, police said. After the shooting, Cummings left the scene, and fled from police after he was spotted on Airport Road in Hanover Township, Lehigh County, authorities said.<\/p>\n
Cummings shot Moncrieffe, who was unarmed, in the head and face at least four times, testimony from the hearing revealed, Baratta said. He fired at least seven shots during the incident, the DA said.<\/p>\n
Cummings went to the home after a juvenile relative called him, saying Moncrieffe was threatening him, according to authorities. Cummings and Moncrieffe fought in the home, and the juvenile joined in, punching Moncrieffe in the face, police said.<\/p>\n
Moncrieffe \u201csquared up\u201d to fight the juvenile, and Cummings then shot him in the head, according to court documents. He told investigators he thought Moncrieffe was reaching for Cummings\u2019 gun, which was in his right pocket, police said.<\/p>\n
