Philadelphia \u2013 Journey to October of 1777 and encounter Germantown during the Battle of Germantown at the Revolutionary Germantown Festival, from 10 am to 4 pm, rain or shine. Visit Cliveden \u2013 the epicenter of the battle \u2013 throughout the day for hands-on activities and intimate portrayals of those who lived through the conflict.<\/p>\n
Interact with craftspeople stationed on the grounds and try your hand at various trades like candle dipping, paper making, and basket weaving. Watch a blacksmith for a glimpse of 18th-century manufacturing. Meet with the British and Continental armies for the full soldier experience, including a court martial, and consider if you could be a soldier in 1777. Visit Ned Hector, an African American teamster who fought in the Battle of Germantown and hear about the experiences of African American soldiers during the Revolution.<\/p>\n
From 10 am to 12 pm and at 1 pm to 3:30 pm, take a tour of the Chew House and speak with Elizabeth Oswald Chew about life during the British occupation of Philadelphia. Enjoy a moment of peace between the British and Continentals at a portrayal of the dog exchange between generals Washington and Howe. Honor the lives lost at the Battle of Germantown at 12pm and those who lost their lives to gun violence in 2026 at 3:45pm.<\/p>\n
Discuss 18th-century baking with Justin Cherry of Half Crown Bakehouse, featured in The New York Times, and purchase your own loaf of fresh bread. Food vendors, including Boomers Kitchen Catering, the Frosted Fox Cake Shop, and Malelani Caf\u00e9, will be on Germantown Avenue throughout the festival. Visit Young American Hard Cider for a seasonal beverage. Visitors can purchase coffee and pastries from High Point Caf\u00e9 and chocolate from Asher\u2019s Chocolates while supplies last.<\/p>\n
