Extreme heat has impacted the daily activities of more than three-quarters of American adults over the past year, a survey by Penn\u2019s Annenberg Public Policy Center found.<\/p>\n
The <\/a>Annenberg Science and Public Health survey<\/a>, released on Sept. 17, examined Americans\u2019 experiences with extreme heat and their understanding of its health risks. It found that while high temperatures have affected respondents\u2019 household expenses and routines, general awareness of resources such as cooling centers remains limited.<\/p>\n \u201cExtreme heat is no longer just an occasional inconvenience,\u201d Ken Winneg, the policy center\u2019s managing director of survey research, wrote in the survey\u2019s press release. \u201cIt is affecting Americans\u2019 household budgets and daily routines, from electricity bills to simply going outside.\u201d<\/p>\n SSRS, an independent research company, conducted the nationally representative survey from Aug. 4 to 17. It included 1,904 adults and had a margin of sampling error of 3.2 percentage points at a 95% confidence level.<\/p>\n Among respondents, over three-quarters said extreme outdoor heat affected their daily activities at least sometimes during the previous year.\u00a0<\/p>\n Get the DP delivered straight to your inbox.<\/p>\n
