BARTA is seeking comments on proposed route and schedule changes that would take effect in January.<\/p>\n
The proposals are based on customer comments submitted through phone calls, emails, social media comments and outreach events, according to the South Central Transit Authority, which operates BARTA.<\/p>\n
The following are the proposed changes, which would be implemented Jan. 4:<\/p>\n
\u2022 Route 1\/Temple via Fifth Street: extend the route to the new Deka location, 8697 Allentown Pike, Blandon, on the last outbound trip weekdays at 11 p.m.<\/p>\n
\u2022 Route 2\/ Fairgrounds Square Market: eliminate route due to low ridership.<\/p>\n
\u2022 Route 3\/Temple via Kutztown Road: extend the route to the new Deka location, 8697 Allentown Pike, Blandon, on two trips during weekdays.<\/p>\n
\u2022 Route 4\/Temple via Kutztown Road: add 10 minutes on each trip on Sundays to help with on-time performance<\/p>\n
\u2022 Route 9\/Grill\/Kenhorst: add service to Brentwood Industries, 621 Brentwood Drive; add time to schedule to serve the location.<\/p>\n
\u2022 Route 11\/Mohnton via Shillington: serve Ollie\u2019s on the outbound direction only; modify route in the inbound direction to serve area along Lancaster Avenue in Shillington.<\/p>\n
\u2022 Route 17\/Glenside\/Airport\/Berks Heim: add service to Berks Industrial Park (near the airport) on the 6:45 a.m. and 3:45 p.m.<\/p>\n
\u2022 Route 18\/Schuylkill Avenue: add time to weekday trips to improve on-time performance.<\/p>\n
\u2022 Route 22\/Lyon Station\/East Penn-Deka: add three trips at 6:30 and 9 a.m., and 3:30 p.m. leaving the BARTA Transportation Center.<\/p>\n
\u2022 Reading School District service: add service to current school trips leaving the BARTA Transportation Center\u00a0 and serve Reading High Innovation Academy at Ninth and Douglass streets. Route 8\/Reiffton will designate three stops at 19th Street and Perkiomen Avenue; 17th Street and Perkiomen Avenue; and 15th Street and Perkiomen Avenue to serve students in the Mount Penn area.<\/p>\n
