Local disabled veterans enjoyed a day out on the water thanks to a tradition that gives back to those who served.<\/p>\n
The S.O.N.S. of Lake Erie, along with the Soldiers’ and Sailors’ Home and the Erie VA, spent time out on the bay Saturday morning.<\/p>\n
Veterans were able to enjoy quality time outdoors aboard a refurbished fishing boat that was modified to accommodate wheelchairs and other accessibility needs.<\/p>\n
Lake Erie Ministries upgraded the boat, known as the Joanne M, making significant improvements to the program and allowing more veterans to get out on the water.<\/p>\n
“Generally, it’s not the best day, but we’d like to get them out in the lake if we can. For safety reasons, we won’t take them into the lake today.
