\t\t\tOBITUARY\t\t<\/p>\n
Janet Carol (Miller) Flowers, a Ransom Twp. native and longtime resident, passed away on Monday at Geisinger Community Medical Center in Scranton. She was 83 years old.<\/p>\n
\nOn April 26th, she was preceded in death by her high school sweetheart and beloved husband of 61 years, Edward Flowers.<\/p>\n
\nBorn on May 31, 1943, and daughter of the late Edwin and Mary (Petty) Miller, Janet attended Newton-Ransom High School, until its closing, before being a member of the first graduating class of South Abington High School in Clarks Summit. She went on to study business at Lackawanna College, while also earning a degree in homemaking.<\/p>\n
\nAlong with serving as a devoted wife and mother of four, Janet was perpetually on the move. Alongside Ed and her family of helpers, the family was a longtime veggie vendor at the Scranton Co-Op Farmers Market. She was also a volunteer lunch lady for Abington School District, a USPS Mail carrier and a telephone operator. For fifteen years, she drove special needs students for the NEIU, also worked at Keystone College\u2019s book store, and most recently, she worked under her son at Jed Pool Tools where she would eventually retire as an assembler.<\/p>\n
\nJanet loved being around people while possessing an innate ability to make friends wherever she was. The matriarch of her family, her loved ones meant everything to her. Her selfless nature, hospitality and caring ways will forever be her legacy. A life well-lived, Janet will be dearly missed.<\/p>\n
\nShe was a devoted member of the Open Door Church in Scranton, and had been a lifelong piano player at local churches. Her Lord and Savior was the focal point of her life.<\/p>\n
\nShe is survived by her loving family including four children, David Flowers and wife Terri of Old Forge, James Flowers and wife Kelly of Clarks Summit, Jeff Flowers and wife Melissa of Ransom Twp. and Tammy Sweeny and husband William of Eynon; nine grandchildren; nine great grandchildren; nieces and nephews; and her adored cat, \u201cSkippy.\u201d A brother, Donald Miller, preceded her in death.<\/p>\n
\nHer family would like to thank the entire staff of Dunmore Health Care Center, including her roommate Marion for her friendship and kindness, along with Dr. Michael Gilhooley for the collective care and compassion she received.<\/p>\n
\nFuneral services are scheduled for Saturday at 11:00 AM at the Open Door Church, 826 S. Keyser Avenue, Scranton. Burial to follow at the Milwaukee Cemetery will be private.<\/p>\n
\nFamily and friends may pay their respects at the church on Saturday from 10:00 AM until services.<\/p>\n
