School Board Approves New Superintendent"},"content":{"rendered":"<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Bensalem Township School District board of directors unanimously approved Victoria Velazquez as the district\u2019s new superintendent at Wednesday night\u2019s school board meeting.<\/p>\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">She will officially be sworn in at a <a href=\"https:\/\/www.bensalemsd.org\/apps\/news\/article\/2233492?categoryId=10691\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener nofollow\">ceremony<\/a> Oct. 1 at Bensalem High School.<\/p>\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Velazquez has served the district for over 12 years \u2014 including roles as assistant to the superintendent for K-12 administration and director of elementary curriculum \u2014 and brings more than 26 years of experience as both a public educator and educational leader.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Before joining the district she worked as a principal in the School District of Philadelphia and the Norristown Area School District.<\/p>\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Earlier in April, Velazquez stepped in as Bensalem\u2019s interim superintendent.<\/p>\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">On top of her \u201cexceptional\u201d qualifications, school board member Karen Winters lauded Velazquez\u2019s connection to the Bensalem community.<\/p>\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">READ: <a commitment to our community and district was evident through every stage of this process,\u201d Winters said. \u201cDr. Velazquez demonstrated a clear vision that centers on our students and community, and I\u2019m honored to cast my vote for her as our superintendent.\u201d<\/p>\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Roger Allen, another school board member, echoed Winters\u2019 sentiment and said that Velazquez brought intangibles to the position that pushed her ahead of the other 26 candidates.<\/p>\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">\u201cYou can teach how to do IEPs, you can teach how to do principal evaluations,\u201d Allen said. \u201cYou can teach those things, but you can\u2019t teach passion, and you can\u2019t teach someone who genuinely actually cares about our community.\u201d<\/p>\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Velazquez said that Wednesday night\u2019s vote was not about her \u2014 it was a collective decision for the betterment of the district.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">\u201cSo I thank all of you, I thank our community, I thank our amazing students and our staff for working so hard to put us where we need to be,\u201d Velazquez said. \u201cAnd now it\u2019s time for us to put Bensalem back on the map.\u201d<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"Bensalem Township School District board of
