DAUPHIN COUNTY, Pa. (WHP) — The Pennsylvania State Police (PSP) and the Department of General Services (DGS) unveiled an outdoor tactical training area on Thursday, the latest milestone in the construction of PSP’s new academy.

The construction project reportedly took nearly three years and $400 million to complete.

The new tactical training area, called a Callout Village, consists of replica homes, a business, and a place of worship. Each structure will provide law enforcement personnel with realistic environments to train for situations they would experience in the field.

“The new Academy project reflects Governor Shapiro’s continued commitment to ensure law enforcement is well-trained, well-staffed, well-funded, and well-equipped to keep Pennsylvanians safe,” according to the press release.

In addition, PSP highlighted the completion of its new 25,000-square-foot Procurement and Supply Warehouse, which is scheduled to open within the next few weeks. The facility will provide State Police with a centralized location for accessing critical resources, according to the Pennsylvania Department of General Services.

“Working alongside the Pennsylvania State Police, DGS is helping deliver a world-class Academy that will support generations of troopers with the facilities, technology, and training environments they need to protect Pennsylvanians,” said DGS Acting Secretary Sandra Aguilera. “We’re proud of this partnership and the lasting impact it will have on communities across the Commonwealth.”

Governor Shapiro reportedly allocated $16.2 million in the 2026 through 2027 budget to fund four more PSP cadet classes, which will train 280 new troopers, according to the press release.

Following the completion of this project, the Bureau of Emergency and Special Operations headquarters is scheduled to open within the next few months, as well as a new grounds and maintenance facility in 2027.

Sometime next spring, a five-story, 300,000-square-foot Marquee Building will open. The building will have modern classrooms, administrative offices, 300 individual cadet dorm rooms, a 500-seat auditorium, an indoor tactical training village and a spacious cafeteria.

Once the Marquee Building is open, the second phase of the Academy project will begin, including demolishing the current Academy building for new training facilities. One of the buildings will reportedly have a 25-lane indoor shooting range.

The project is expected to be completed in 2028.

DAUPHIN COUNTY, Pa.
