ERIE, Pa. \u2014 AHN Saint Vincent Hospital celebrated National Advanced Practice Provider Week on Thursday, highlighting the clinical expertise and contributions of advanced practice providers who care for patients alongside physicians.<\/p>\n
The observance recognizes physician assistants, nurse practitioners and other advanced practice providers who play an increasingly important role in health care.<\/p>\n
Advanced practice providers can diagnose and treat patients, order tests and help manage care as part of a broader health care team. While National Advanced Practice Provider Week has been formally recognized for about five years, advanced practice providers have been practicing in the United States for much longer.<\/p>\n
Dr. Chris Clark, president of AHN Saint Vincent, said advanced practice providers are an important part of the hospital’s care teams.<\/p>\n
“Physician assistants or other advanced practice providers work as part of the caregiver team, and they’re critically important in their roles,” Clark said. “They work with physicians side by side and actually do all the same kinds of things as physicians in all the different specialties.”<\/p>\n
Clark said advanced practice providers have become increasingly important in hospitals across the country.<\/p>\n
“They have increasingly become a very, very important part of our caregiver team and are doing more and more in hospitals across the country these days,” he said.<\/p>\n
AHN Saint Vincent also honored two physician assistants during its Advanced Practice Provider Week celebration for their contributions to patient care.<\/p>\n
