A Pennsylvania doctor was stabbed to death as he slept by a near-naked intruder claiming to be God as his critically injured wife rushed to save their children and find help.<\/p>\n

Dr. Idris Evans and his wife were found suffering from multiple stab wounds inside their home in Edgewood, Penn., just after 12:30 a.m. on Thursday, the Allegheny County Police said.<\/p>\n

The couple had been sleeping in their third-floor bedroom when suspect Elijah Hemingway, 32, allegedly broke into the home from a back window and launched his overnight attack.<\/p>\n

\u201cIt was a very violent scene. The bedroom furniture broken, mirrors broken. It was a very graphic scene,\u201d Assistant Superintendent Victor Joseph told reporters during a news conference Thursday.<\/p>\n

Dr. Idris Evans was killed when a naked intruder broke into his home and stabbed him and his wife while they slept in Edgewood, Penn., in the early hours of Sept. 24, 2026. UPMC<\/p>\n

Hemingway was described as \u201cpsychotic\u201d while he stabbed the doctor and his wife, making multiple references to God and \u201cbeing God,\u201d according to court records obtained by WPXI.<\/a><\/p>\n

Evans, 46, was rushed to a local hospital where he was pronounced dead.<\/p>\n

His wife was also transported to a hospital where she was listed in critical condition.<\/p>\n

Evans\u2019 wife told police they had tried \u201cfighting back the best of their ability\u201d while she yelled for their kids to flee the home.<\/p>\n

The couple\u2019s children, 8 and 12 years old, were reported to be physically \u201cOK\u201d from the attack.<\/p>\n

Police were called to Evans\u2019 home at around 12:30 a.m. following reports of a stabbing. WPXI<\/p>\n

The alleged intruder also took Evans\u2019 wife\u2019s car keys after he demanded them.<\/p>\n

During the attack, Evans called out the suspect by his first name, \u201cElijah,\u201d as if he knew him, according to his wife, who did not know the armed intruder, Joseph said.<\/p>\n

Hemingway claimed to have been invited to the home, but officials found evidence to back the claim, the outlet reported.<\/p>\n

\u201cWe do not know if there was any preexisting relationship, though the female victim did not know this male, we are trying to determine if the two males knew eachother, it at all,\u201d Joseph said.<\/p>\n

The suspected killer was transported to a hospital and hit with a slew of charges including criminal homicide, aggravated assault, burglary and criminal trespass. WPXI<\/p>\n

Hemingway was tracked down by a police K9 to a neighboring home where he was found with lacerations to his hands, officials said.<\/p>\n

Hemingway had been out on a nonmonetary bail following a July arrest for burglary and theft back in February, according to court records viewed by The Post.<\/p>\n

Evans was a physician and the co-Medical Director of UPMC Children\u2019s Hospital of Pittsburgh\u2019s Pediatric Transport Team as well as an Assistant Professor of Critical Care Medicine at the University of Pittsburgh, according to his online bio.<\/a><\/p>\n

\u201cThe UPMC and University of Pittsburgh community is deeply saddened by the tragic loss of Dr. Idris Evans, a pediatric critical care physician at UPMC Children\u2019s Hospital of Pittsburgh and an assistant professor of critical care medicine at the University of Pittsburgh,\u201d UPMC said in a statement to WPXI.<\/p>\n
