The Florida Everblades<\/a> enter the 2026-27 ECHL season with a new NHL affiliation and a familiar position at the top of the league. The defending Kelly Cup champions are now affiliated with the Pittsburgh Penguins and their AHL affiliate, the Wilkes-Barre\/Scranton Penguins.<\/p>\n

Florida went 49-13-7-3 with 108 points last season before defeating the Kansas City Mavericks in six games to win the 2026 Kelly Cup. It was the Everblades’ fifth championship, the most in ECHL history.<\/p>\n

For Penguins fans, the timing makes Florida particularly compelling. Pittsburgh’s new ECHL affiliate has won four of the last five Kelly Cups, giving the organization a proven competitive destination as a new Pittsburgh-Wilkes-Barre\/Scranton-Florida development relationship begins.<\/p>\n

What Pittsburgh inherits, however, is the ECHL’s winningest championship franchise. Florida won Kelly Cups in 2012, 2022, 2023, 2024 and 2026. Any future Pittsburgh or Wilkes-Barre\/Scranton assignments would therefore enter an organization that has won four championships in five seasons.<\/p>\n

Which players arrive from the Penguins organization will depend on roster decisions following NHL and AHL camps. In the meantime, forwards Isaac Nurse, Carson Gicewicz and Jesse Lansdell and defensemen Cole Moberg and Riese Zmolek are among Florida’s current ECHL listings.<\/p>\n

The larger question is whether coach and general manager Brad Ralph can keep the run going. Florida enters 2026-27 chasing a sixth Kelly Cup while beginning an entirely new chapter with Pittsburgh.<\/p>\n
