Greater Scranton YMCA officials will use $230,000 of Local Share Account funding to replace roofs and upgrade the facility\u2019s security in Dunmore.<\/p>\n
Earlier this month, state Sen. Marty Flynn, D-22, Dunmore, announced $7,645,810 in LSA funding for 50 projects throughout Lackawanna and Luzerne counties.<\/p>\n
The Local Share Account program \u2014 funded through gaming revenues and administered through the Commonwealth Financing Authority \u2014 provides funding for projects in the public interest that improve the quality of life in communities across Pennsylvania, including investments in infrastructure, community facilities, public safety equipment and other community improvement projects, state officials said.<\/p>\n
Flynn also credited state Reps. Bridget Kosierowski, Kyle Donahue, Kyle Mullins, Eddie Day Pashinski, and Jim Haddock for advocating for projects in the district.<\/p>\n
Colleen Burns Ecklund, director of marketing and development for the YMCA, stated the nonprofit will use the grant funding, in conjunction with the organization\u2019s operating budget to replace the two roofs in critical need of repair.<\/p>\n
\u201cOne is our high pool roof \u2014 that one is 50-years-old and original to the building,\u201d she said. \u201cWe have another one that covers a few critical parts of the building including our universal locker room, women\u2019s locker room, central hallway, teaching kitchen and community kitchen, and was replaced in the late 80s.\u201d<\/p>\n
Additionally, a portion of the funding to support the replacement of security doors, Burns Ecklund added.<\/p>\n
\u201cWe have seven security doors protecting our early learning center and childcare programming,\u201d she said. \u201cThose all currently have one access code that allows folks to go in and out of the childcare facility. We\u2019re looking to replace it with a new system that would allow each parent to have their own individual code per family. It also allows us to run more detailed reports so we can better protect the students. Our number one priority is and continues to be the safety of the children in our care.\u201d<\/p>\n
