{"id":294101,"date":"2026-09-26T00:04:08","date_gmt":"2026-09-26T00:04:08","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/us-pa\/294101\/"},"modified":"2026-09-26T00:04:08","modified_gmt":"2026-09-26T00:04:08","slug":"pennsylvania-offers-disaster-aid-for-fruit-growers-impacted-by-springtime-crop-freeze","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/us-pa\/294101\/","title":{"rendered":"Pennsylvania offers disaster aid for fruit growers impacted by springtime crop freeze"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>BEDFORD COUNTY, Pa (WJAC) \u2014 After a devastating early freeze in April, Pennsylvania fruit growers may be getting some much-needed relief.<\/p>\n<p>Matt Boyer runs Boyer Orchards in Bedford County and says unseasonably warm days followed by freezing temperatures this past spring severely diminished their apple crop.<\/p>\n<p>He says his 300 acres normally yields about two hundred thousand bushels, but not this year.<\/p>\n<p>Boyer says that number is down 70 percent, which is more than enough of a loss to qualify for state aide.<\/p>\n<p>According to state Ag officials, disaster assistance is now available for Pennsylvania fruit growers who suffered crop damage between April 1st and April 21st of this year.<\/p>\n<p>Boyer says they have applied for the grant money but have no idea how much they will get or when they\u2019ll get it.<\/p>\n<p>He says some varieties fared better than others, and his family is just glad they had enough apples to keep their market open.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cRed Delicious and Macintosh, they really got clobbered, but we still have enough apples for our market; we&#8217;re open now seven days a week and the sales have been brisk for Cortland, that&#8217;s really a big seller for us.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Boyer says they know times are tough and everybody\u2019s watching their nickels, so they have tried to keep their prices relatively the same as last year.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"BEDFORD COUNTY, Pa (WJAC) \u2014 After a devastating early freeze in April, Pennsylvania fruit growers may be getting&hellip;\n","protected":false},"author":2,"featured_media":294102,"comment_status":"","ping_status":"","sticky":false,"template":"","format":"standard","meta":{"footnotes":""},"categories":[6],"tags":[28,30,29],"class_list":["post-294101","post","type-post","status-publish","format-standard","has-post-thumbnail","category-pennsylvania","tag-pennsylvania","tag-pennsylvania-headlines","tag-pennsylvania-news"],"_links":{"self":[{"href":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/us-pa\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/posts\/294101","targetHints":{"allow":["GET"]}}],"collection":[{"href":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/us-pa\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/posts"}],"about":[{"href":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/us-pa\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/types\/post"}],"author":[{"embeddable":true,"href":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/us-pa\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/users\/2"}],"replies":[{"embeddable":true,"href":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/us-pa\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/comments?post=294101"}],"version-history":[{"count":0,"href":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/us-pa\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/posts\/294101\/revisions"}],"wp:featuredmedia":[{"embeddable":true,"href":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/us-pa\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/media\/294102"}],"wp:attachment":[{"href":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/us-pa\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/media?parent=294101"}],"wp:term":[{"taxonomy":"category","embeddable":true,"href":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/us-pa\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/categories?post=294101"},{"taxonomy":"post_tag","embeddable":true,"href":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/us-pa\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/tags?post=294101"}],"curies":[{"name":"wp","href":"https:\/\/api.w.org\/{rel}","templated":true}]}}
