Taylor Swift’s new song “Cleveland!” has people talking about a city I already know.<\/p>\n

I’m originally from Cincinnati, so Cleveland has always been familiar territory. But Swift’s l reference to Cleveland and “The Heights,” where Travis Kelce grew up, gives travelers a timely excuse to take a closer look at Ohio’s Lake Erie city.<\/p>\n

And Cleveland makes a very good weekend trip.<\/p>\n

You can spend one day around downtown, the lakefront and Ohio City, then head east for museums and Cleveland Heights the next. Here’s how I’d do it.<\/p>\n

Start with the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame\"The<\/p>\n

The Rock & Roll Hall of Fame sits on Cleveland’s Lake Erie waterfront and traces the history of artists who shaped rock and popular music.<\/p>\n

If Taylor Swift is what inspires you to visit to Cleveland, starting at the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame<\/a> feels appropriate.<\/p>\n

The museum sits right on Lake Erie and covers far more than the artists already inducted into the Hall of Fame. There are costumes, instruments, handwritten lyrics, performance footage and exhibits that span generations of music.<\/p>\n

Even if you’re not usually a museum person, this is one of Cleveland’s signature attractions and worth making time for on a first visit.<\/p>\n

From here, you’re also close to the lakefront and downtown, so it’s an easy place to start the weekend.<\/p>\n

Cross the river to West Side Market\"Interior<\/p>\n

Inside Cleveland’s West Side Market, where vendors have been selling produce, meats, baked goods and prepared foods since the market opened in 1912.<\/p>\n

Next, head to Ohio City and West Side Market<\/a>, and be sure to arrive hungry.<\/p>\n

The market has been around since 1912, and walking through the historic hall is one of the best ways to get a sense of Cleveland beyond its big attractions. Vendors sell everything from baked goods and produce to meats, cheeses and prepared foods.<\/p>\n

Ohio City<\/a> is also worth exploring beyond the market. Restaurants, breweries and shops make it easy to spend a couple of hours here rather.<\/p>\n

One planning tip: check the market’s opening days, since it isn’t open every day of the week.<\/p>\n

See Cleveland from the lakefront\"People<\/p>\n

Edgewater Beach offers a sandy stretch of Lake Erie shoreline just west of downtown Cleveland.<\/p>\n

One thing that sets Cleveland apart is Lake Erie. Edgewater Park,<\/a> just west of downtown, is an easy place to get that perspective.<\/p>\n

The park has swimming and dog beaches, walking paths, concessions, and views back toward the skyline. I’d save it for late afternoon if the weather is good.<\/p>\n

Spend your second day around University Circle\"The<\/p>\n

The Cleveland Museum of Art is known for its wide-ranging collection, with more than 63,000 works spanning 6,000 years of art history.<\/p>\n

On day two, head east. The Cleveland Museum of Art<\/a> is one of the city’s best stops, and general admission to its permanent collection is free.<\/p>\n

The collection includes some genuine heavy hitters: Picasso’s La Vie, Van Gogh’s The Poplars at Saint-R\u00e9my, Caravaggio’s The Crucifixion of Saint Andrew, and Frederic Edwin Church’s dramatic Twilight in the Wilderness. The museum also has major works by Monet, Degas, Renoir, C\u00e9zanne and Rodin, including a cast of The Thinker.<\/p>\n

There’s plenty more to do in University Circle beyond the art museum. You can visit the Cleveland Museum of Natural History, walk through the Cleveland Botanical Garden, hear the Cleveland Orchestra at Severance Music Center, or explore the Case Western Reserve University campus. The neighborhood is compact enough to combine a few stops without spending the day in the car.<\/p>\n

And that brings us back to Taylor Swift.<\/p>\n

See what “The Heights” actually looks like<\/p>\n

In “Cleveland!,” Swift references “The Heights,” meaning Cleveland Heights<\/a>, the close-in suburb where Travis Kelce grew up.<\/p>\n

You don’t need to turn the neighborhood into a Kelce scavenger hunt to make it part of your trip.<\/p>\n

Instead, head toward areas like Cedar Lee or Coventry Village<\/a>, where you’ll find independent restaurants, shops and long-established neighborhood businesses. Cleveland Heights feels much more residential and local than downtown.<\/p>\n

I’d skip searching for childhood homes or other private Kelce locations. There’s plenty to see without turning someone’s old neighborhood into a celebrity tour.<\/p>\n

Why Cleveland is worth a weekend<\/p>\n

If Cleveland hasn’t been high on your weekend-trip list, it may be time to reconsider. The city packs a lot into a short visit, with lakefront views, excellent museums, a historic market, lively neighborhoods and deep music history all within easy reach.<\/p>\n

Taylor Swift may be giving Cleveland a timely moment, but there are plenty of reasons to visit long after the song leaves the headlines.<\/p>\n
