John Fetterman, once again, was the only Democrat on Thursday to vote against a resolution which would limit President Donald Trump\u2019s military actions against Iran.<\/p>\n<p>Fetterman and U.S. Sen. Dave McCormick, R-Pa., were among the 50 who voted to reject the effort, while 49 voted in favor.<\/p>\n<p>While a majority of Republicans voted to reject this resolution, four Republicans crossed the aisle to support it. Several votes have been decided by a one-vote margin since the war began, while <a href=\"https:\/\/www.reuters.com\/world\/us\/us-democrats-tee-up-pre-election-war-powers-vote-some-republicans-break-with-2026-09-24\/\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Reuters<\/a> notes that it was the 14th time that the Senate has voted on this war powers resolution.<\/p>\n<p>Fetterman didn\u2019t issue a public statement following his vote on Thursday. However, he has been a vocal opponent against the effort from his fellow Democrats since the beginning of the war, despite growing opposition from members of his own party.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>On Feb. 28, Fetterman shared a screenshot of an <a href=\"https:\/\/www.axios.com\/2026\/02\/28\/trump-iran-congress-war-powers-vote\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Axios article<\/a> titled \u201cDemocrats demand war powers vote after U.S. strikes Iran.\u201d<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/x.com\/SenFettermanPA\/status\/2027771338639679554?ref_src=twsrc%5Etfw%7Ctwcamp%5Etweetembed%7Ctwterm%5E2027771338639679554%7Ctwgr%5Eb9cf2f53836d050f64bbb873e9358df3529ec476%7Ctwcon%5Es1_&amp;ref_url=https%3A%2F%2Fwww.fox29.com%2Fnews%2Ffetterman-defies-democrats-opposes-iran-war-powers-resolution-after-us-strikes\" rel=\"nofollow\">Fetterman\u2019s response<\/a> to that was \u201cCommitted Democrat here. I\u2019m a hard no. My vote is Operation Epic Fury.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>McCormick, a military veteran who served in the 82nd Airborne Division during the Gulf War, also didn\u2019t issue a public statement regarding that vote on Thursday. However, he\u2019s also been a Trump ally during this military operation and defended the president\u2019s actions as recently as Sunday.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI&#8217;ve been very supportive of the president&#8217;s actions to ensure Iran doesn&#8217;t have a nuclear weapon,\u201d <a href=\"https:\/\/www.foxnews.com\/video\/6405330086112\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">McCormick said on Fox News Sunday<\/a> on Sept. 20. \u201cIt was a courageous decision, not an easy decision, but imagine the idea of Iran having a nuclear weapon on his watch, which I believe would have happened had we not intervened.\u201d\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWe&#8217;ve made huge progress on diminishing their military,\u201d he added. \u201cThey still have some capability, but it&#8217;s been significant, and our economic efforts are working.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>U.S. Sen. Tim Kaine, D-Va., who has <a href=\"https:\/\/www.congress.gov\/bill\/119th-congress\/senate-joint-resolution\/104\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">led the effort<\/a> since late February, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.kaine.senate.gov\/press-releases\/kaine-statement-on-trumps-illegal-war-with-iran\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">described the military action against Iran<\/a> as \u201cillegal\u201d and called on the U.S. Senate to return to session and \u201cvote on my War Powers Resolution to block the use of U.S. forces in hostilities against Iran.\u201d<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.congress.gov\/bill\/93rd-congress\/house-joint-resolution\/542\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">The 1973 War Powers Resolution<\/a> \u201crequires military operations to wind down after 60 days, unless Congress authorizes continued action,\u201d according to <a href=\"https:\/\/www.politico.com\/live-updates\/2026\/05\/13\/congress\/more-republicans-vote-to-rein-in-trump-on-iran-in-new-signs-of-frustration-00918708\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Politico<\/a>. Multiple votes have taken place since the legal deadline has passed.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>While the last several attempts have failed by a one-vote margin, more Republicans running in battleground states have expressed opposition to the war.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.nbcnews.com\/politics\/congress\/senate-rejects-resolution-calling-end-iran-war-republicans-stick-trump-rcna599624\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">NBC News<\/a> reports that in recent days, GOP Senate candidates <a href=\"https:\/\/www.nbcnews.com\/politics\/2026-election\/michigan-republicans-break-trump-iran-ai-data-centers-rcna599300\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Mike Rogers in Michigan<\/a> and <a href=\"https:\/\/www.nbcnews.com\/politics\/2026-election\/iowa-gop-senate-candidate-ashley-hinson-calls-iran-war-end-rcna599041\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Rep. Ashley Hinson in Iowa<\/a> have called for ending the war after siding with Trump on it for months.<\/p>\n<p>Recent polling also indicates that the war is not popular in Pennsylvania.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>Just 31% of Pennsylvanians either strongly or somewhat approve of Trump\u2019s handling of the war in Iran, while 67% strongly or somewhat disapprove, according to a <a href=\"https:\/\/www.nytimes.com\/interactive\/2026\/09\/24\/polls\/times-inquirer-siena-pa-poll-lv-crosstabs.html\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">New York Times\/Philadelphia Inquirer\/Siena poll<\/a> conducted among 615 voters from Sept. 15 to 22.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>The U.S. House has supported the resolution on multiple occasions. On Sept. 15, the <a href=\"https:\/\/thehill.com\/homenews\/house\/6091940-house-iran-war-powers-resolution\/\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">chamber<\/a> voted to pass the resolution, which would restrict Trump\u2019s military actions against Iran. While the vote mostly fell along party lines for Pennsylvania\u2019s congressional delegation, GOP U.S. Rep. Brian Fitzpatrick joined Democrats in voting in support.<\/p>\n<p>Fetterman, who has been viewed as the deciding vote on multiple occasions for this resolution, has been sharply criticized by his fellow Democrats, including those who have been named as potential primary challengers in 2028.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>U.S. Rep. Chris Deluzio, D-17th District, is a Navy veteran and has been <a href=\"https:\/\/www.thecentersquare.com\/pennsylvania\/article_9a8d38fc-9e20-40fd-b6b5-adb98d9d5f58.html\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">outspoken in his criticism of the war<\/a> since Feb. 28.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>\u201cJohn Fetterman just cast the deciding vote to keep the Iran War raging,\u201d <a href=\"https:\/\/x.com\/ChrisForPA\/status\/2103233525025558997\" rel=\"nofollow\">Deluzio wrote on social media<\/a> Thursday. \u201cThis reckless war has cost American lives, innocent lives, tens of billions of dollars, and higher prices on nearly everything here at home. John and 49 Republican Senators voted in favor of all of that.
