(WHTM) – A new poll of Pennsylvania’s race for governor shows incumbent Josh Shapiro (D) leading State Treasurer Stacy Garrity (R) by 20 points.<\/p>\n
The New York Times\/Philadelphia Inquirer\/Siena Poll<\/a> of registered voters in Pennsylvania shows Shapiro leading 58% to 38% with less than six weeks until Election Day.<\/p>\n \u00a0Josh Shapiro, Stacy Garrity agree to Nexstar-hosted Governor’s debate in Harrisburg\u00a0<\/a><\/p>\n An August poll conducted by the same organizations showed Shapiro leading 55% to 39%.<\/p>\n The latest poll also found that 33% of voters have not heard of Garrity, the state’s two-term Treasurer. Twenty-nine percent of voters said they have a very or somewhat favorable opinion of Garrity, and 27% had a somewhat or very unfavorable opinion.<\/p>\n Sixty-one percent of voters said they either strongly or somewhat approve of Shapiro’s job performance, while 33% either somewhat or strongly disapproved.<\/p>\n Voters’ top issue was the economy (32%), followed by inflation\/cost of living (10%).<\/p>\n Ten percent of voters said candidate character\/competence is most important to them, and six percent said data centers\/A.I. is their top issue.<\/p>\n Where Do Voters Stand On Data Centers?<\/p>\n Sixty-four percent of voters oppose the construction of data centers to support artificial intelligence, and 59% said they support limits and regulations around data center construction.<\/p>\n Thirty-nine percent said they support a complete ban on data center development.<\/p>\n \u00a0Josh Shapiro outraises Stacy Garrity by $11.5 million in recent filing\u00a0<\/a><\/p>\n Fifty-seven percent said they believe Shapiro would “do a better job” dealing with data centers and A.I. companies, compared to 31% for Garrity. Both candidates have made data centers a top issue in the race and have accussed each other of flip-flopping on the topic.<\/a><\/p>\n Election Day is Nov. 3, 2026. Pennsylvania voters<\/a> have until Oct. 19 to\u00a0register to vote<\/a> and Oct. 27 to request a mail-in or absentee ballot<\/a>. Polling places are open from 7 a.m. to 8 p.m., barring a judicial order.<\/p>\n
