It seems more times than not\u200a\u2014\u200athat when Chicago and Philadelphia meet on the NFL gridiron\u200a\u2014\u200ait becomes significant for both teams. The Eagles Super Bowl hopes were cut short in 1988 at Soldier<\/a> Field during the Fog Bowl, the Eagles beat the Bears in December of 2022 on their way to another<\/a>, and in the 2002 NFC Divisional Playoffs\u200a\u2014\u200aPhilly won in Chicago for the first time in 20 years and advanced<\/a> to the city\u2019s first NFC Championship Game in almost two decades.<\/p>\n

Last season\u200a\u2014\u200athe Eagles rolled out all black alternate uniforms last year on the day after Thanksgiving<\/a>. It didn\u2019t seem to matter\u200a\u2014\u200aas the Bears won at Lincoln Financial Field 24\u201315 after running for nearly 285 yards<\/a>. The Eagles would fall short in defending their Lombardi Trophy and had an early playoff<\/a> exit\u200a\u2014\u200aand the Bears would end up in the Divisional Round of the 2026 NFC Playoffs.<\/p>\n

One hundred years ago\u200a\u2014\u200athe Bears coached by the legendary George Halas played another local NFL Team at Shibe Park in Philadelphia<\/a>. In front of 10,000 fans\u200a\u2014\u200athe game would come down to a late fourth-down\u200a\u2014\u200awhere the Frankford<\/a> Yellow Jackets would score a touchdown thanks to a reception from \u201cTwo-Bits\u201d Homan. The extra point gave Frankford the win.<\/p>\n

A quarter decade ago\u200a\u2014\u200aDonovan McNabb and the Eagles rolled into Soldier Field after defeating Tampa Bay in the Wildcard Round<\/a> a week prior. The resounding playoff win\u200a\u2014\u200aincluding Hugh Douglas knocking Bears quarterback Jim Miller from the game<\/a>\u200a\u2014\u200asent the Eagles on a run that would take them to the top of the NFC<\/a> for the next several years and was the final game played at the old Soldier Field<\/a>.<\/p>\n

Even without star quarterback Caleb Williams\u200a\u2014\u200aMonday night\u2019s matchup is an early season predictor of things to come from two NFL franchises both with Super Bowl aspirations<\/a>. If history is any judge\u200a\u2014\u200ait will give us a glimpse into whose season is going up and which is going down.<\/p>\n

Ninety-five years ago next month those same Yellow Jackets\u200a were forced to play their final games on the road due to a fire at Frankford Stadium<\/a> and financial ruin. The franchises\u2019 very last win was at Wrigley Field in October of 1931<\/a> in front of some<\/a> 26,000 fans. Five years earlier\u200a\u2014\u200awhat was the significance of a December of 1926 Yellow Jackets win over the Bears late in the 4th quarter?<\/p>\n

It was Philadelphia\u2019s first NFL Championship. Will this Eagles team be the next one in 2027? A win over the Bears could very well set us on that path.\u00a0<\/p>\n

At least\u200a\u2014\u200athat is what history tells us.<\/p>\n
