CHICAGO — The Chicago Bears made a memorable trip to Philadelphia in November, rushing for 281 yards in an impressive 24-15 victory over the Eagles.<\/p>\n
Philadelphia is hoping to return the favor on Monday night, when it visits Chicago in search of a second straight road win.<\/p>\n
“They are one of the better running teams in the league,” Eagles defensive coordinator Vic Fangio said. “They’ve got a really great (offensive line), great backs. Their scheme is good. We’re going to have to play it a whole lot better.”<\/p>\n
The Eagles are coming off a dramatic 24-20 victory at Tennessee. Quarterback Jalen Hurts threw a 3-yard touchdown pass to Darius Cooper with 9 seconds left.<\/p>\n
“It’s a really good team coming in. … They make it really difficult for you and it’s sound, both sides of the ball,” Bears coach Ben Johnson said. “Special teams a good unit as well, so we’ll have our work cut out for us.”<\/p>\n
Ahead of the game, Chicago Bears quarterback Tyson Bagent cleared the NFL’s concussion protocol Sunday, putting him in the mix to play Monday night.<\/p>\n
The Bears announced on Sunday that Bagent has no injury designation for their Week 3 game.<\/p>\n
Bagent returned to practice on Saturday after he suffered a concussion in last weekend’s 9-3 loss to Minnesota. Bagent entered against the Vikings after Caleb Williams left with a right hamstring injury.<\/p>\n
Case Keenum or Bagent is expected to start against the Eagles. Neither player has started a regular-season game since 2023.<\/p>\n
Keenum has made 66 starts in 80 career games, but he hasn’t thrown a pass in a regular-season game since Dec. 24, 2023, for Houston against Cleveland. He has started only four times in the 2020s.<\/p>\n
“I feel really good,” Keenum said. “There have been some things every year. I call it a little puzzle of trying to figure out how to get your body in the best shape that it can. This year worked a little more on my diet and what I put in, what I fuel it with. Which is not as fun, it’s just boring, but it does help. So, I feel great.”<\/p>\n
Receivers are all well acquainted with Keenum because the Bears mixed their receiver groups with each QB during the offseason and during parts of training camp.<\/p>\n
“Kind of having that next-man-up mentality and just trying to go to work with the people that we’re going to have available in the game,” wide receiver Rome Odunze said. “Obviously that’s kind of a question of who that’s going be right now, but that doesn’t change our work ethic out there on the practice field or our confidence in anybody in this locker room. We’re going to go and play our brand of football and dice it up.”<\/p>\n
Bears offensive coordinator Press Taylor, a former Eagles assistant, called Keenum an appropriate answer for going against defensive coordinator Vic Fangio’s zone-based Eagles coverage schemes.<\/p>\n
“You’re going to have to be patient,” Taylor said. “You’re not going to get these big, long explosives the way they play in the shell, the way everything starts playing out of the shell. And then they just do a great job of playing a variety of different fronts and techniques ultimately to try to do the same idea at the end of the day – limit the explosives and make you go the long, hard way.”<\/p>\n
It’s a bit different approach than the one Williams normally takes. The Bears had four completions 22 yards or longer in their opener, a 59-37 win over a Carolina team using a variation of Fangio’s defense.<\/p>\n
Taylor said Williams can benefit from watching if he misses a game for the first time.<\/p>\n
“I think it’s a very new situation for him, obviously,” Taylor said. “But I do think you can sit there and you can watch a veteran quarterback or Tyson if Tyson gets the opportunity, how they handle the huddle, how they handle the sidelines, what you can provide as an extra set of eyes on the sidelines potentially if that’s where he is. And we’ll see how that goes.”<\/p>\n
