Nancy Mannion, a former emergency nurse and health care executive, is running as a Democrat to represent Pennsylvania’s 11th Congressional District, which includes Lancaster County and part of York County. <\/p>\n

About <\/p>\n

Mannion has held eight town halls across the district since February and attended public events throughout Lancaster and York counties. Her campaign says she intends to emphasize problem-solving over partisan politics.<\/p>\n

Her policy priorities include making health care more affordable and accessible, strengthening public education, expanding workforce-development programs and protecting voting rights. She also supports directing federal resources toward housing, nutrition and other services for families, children and older adults in the district. <\/p>\n

Mannion lives with her husband and their two dogs. <\/p>\n

Health care career<\/p>\n

Mannion began her nursing education with a registered nurse diploma before earning bachelor\u2019s, master\u2019s and doctoral degrees. Her career has included clinical, management and governance positions at hospitals, health systems and professional associations.<\/p>\n

She has served as president of the Emergency Nurses Association, chair of the Academy of Emergency Nursing and a trustee of the Emergency Nurses Association Foundation. Mannion is also the immediate past chair of the Nurses on Boards Coalition, an organization that promotes nurses\u2019 involvement in community health through board service.<\/p>\n

She said her health care career taught her to make decisions under pressure, solve complex problems and provide compassionate care. Mannion plans to bring those skills, along with an emphasis on integrity and accountability, to Congress.<\/p>\n

International and community service<\/p>\n

Mannion has provided humanitarian medical care in South America, Asia and Africa, according to her campaign. She also worked as an international health care consultant, helping organizations in Europe, Asia and the Middle East implement clinical, leadership and governance practices.<\/p>\n

Her community involvement began during childhood through her church and the Girl Scouts. As an adult, she has continued serving through Rotary, church programs and nonprofit boards.<\/p>\n

Mannion has been recognized as a fellow by the American Academy of Nursing and the Emergency Nurses Association. Her professional writing has appeared in books and journals, and she has spoken at events around the world, according to her campaign.<\/p>\n

Economic and agricultural priorities<\/p>\n

As a small-business owner, Mannion said she supports simplifying the tax code, investing in education and job training, and expanding broadband access. <\/p>\n

Mannion also identifies agriculture as a priority because of the significant farming industries in Lancaster and York counties. She said she would advocate for policies that help area farmers remain economically successful. <\/p>\n
