website, was found “tucked away in the archives.” The recipe — which calls for infusing chocolate with peanut butter and pieces of Clark crunch — had been forgotten for nearly 50 years, the candymaker said.

“This isn’t a new Clark Bar. It’s a piece of Clark history brought back to life,” said Anthony Forgione II, CEO of Boyer Candy Co. Inc. “When we discovered this recipe in the archives, we knew we had found something special. Clark has such a deep history in Pennsylvania, and generations of people have a connection to this brand. Bringing the Clark Crush Bar back gives fans a chance to experience another chapter of that history.”

The original Clark Bar was invented in Pittsburgh in 1917.

For people looking to try the sweet treat, Grandpa Joe’s Candy Shop in Pittsburgh’s Strip District is giving away free Clark Crush Bars to the first 100 customers in line at 9 a.m. Wednesday as part of a launch celebration with Boyer.

The Clark Crush Bar also will be available at Grandpa Joe’s Candy Shop’s locations in Mt. Lebanon, Canonsburg and Beaver.

“Pittsburgh has an incredible connection to the Clark Bar,” said Christopher J. Beers, founder and CEO of Grandpa Joe’s Candy Shop. “You mention Clark Bars around here and people immediately have a memory or a story. That sense of nostalgia is a huge part of what we do at Grandpa Joe’s, so when Boyer approached us about helping bring this piece of Clark history back to Pittsburgh, it was a perfect fit.”

The Clark Crush Bar is being made in limited quantities, Boyer said in a news release.
