A massive sinkhole in Philadelphia’s Mayfair neighborhood is raising safety concerns among residents who say the hole has grown significantly over the past six months.<\/p>\n

The Philadelphia Water Department told NBC10 the hole is connected to a problem with a private sewer line.<\/p>\n
A contractor working through the city’s Homeowner Emergency Loan Program discovered Friday that conditions were getting worse and stopped work, according to the Water Department.<\/p>\n
The area has since been barricaded. The Water Department said plumbing work is expected to continue into next week.<\/p>\n
