PHILADELPHIA (WPVI) — Philadelphia police are investigating a deadly shooting in the city’s Frankford section Wednesday morning.<\/p>\n
Officials say a young woman shot and killed a masked man who had allegedly broken into her apartment.<\/p>\n
Officers were called to an apartment complex in the 4600 block of Castor Avenue just after 5 a.m. for a shooting.<\/p>\n
When they arrived, officers found a 29-year-old man who had been shot in the head.<\/p>\n
He was unresponsive and was pronounced dead at the scene.<\/p>\n
The woman told police she heard someone breaking windows to the apartment and encountered the man inside her apartment.<\/p>\n
“It appears this individual broke the window, and was able to reach in and open the door, and then entered this woman’s apartment and that’s when the shot – or shots – were fired,” said Chief Inspector Scott Small with the Philadelphia Police Department.<\/p>\n
Investigators say that once they removed the mask from the man, the woman recognized him, telling police they had a prior relationship. It is unclear what type of relationship those involved have.<\/p>\n
Small said it does not appear the man had any weapons on him.<\/p>\n
Officials say the woman is cooperating with police and has turned a semi-automatic handgun over to officers.<\/p>\n
The shooter is being interviewed by homicide detectives.<\/p>\n
Police are also reviewing surveillance footage from near the scene.<\/p>\n
