At its meeting on Monday, Sept. 28, the city commission gave first reading to a zoning change for a 1.51-acre tract on College Street, changing it from R-1 (residential) to B-2 (business). The property is owned by Richard Reed, Tiffany Zammit and Stuart and Janice Martt.<\/p>\n
The property fronts U.S. 127 and is located across the street from Walmart. The applicants would like to build a 6,000-square-foot commercial building with parking and a stormwater detention pond.<\/p>\n
Residents of the Audubon subdivision have recently complained about flooding in the neighborhood.<\/p>\n
Both Attorney Robert L. Gullette Jr. of Nicholasville and Monty Rhody of Rhody Engineering and Land Surveying, who represented the applicants at a public hearing held by the Harrodsburg-Mercer County Joint Planning and Zoning Commission in August, said the development could resolve flooding in the Audubon subdivision, which includes Bob-O-Link Drive.<\/p>\n
\u201cWe\u2019ll make sure every bit of the water from this development goes into this pond,\u201d Rhody said in August.<\/p>\n
Gullette said the neighbors would benefit from the large detention basin.<\/p>\n
\u201cThe detention pond on this property is going to make their situation significantly better,\u201d Gullette said.<\/p>\n
The planning and zoning commission voted to recommend the rezoning to the city commission contingent on post-runoff being decreased by 25 percent.<\/p>\n
No one commented on the rezoning Monday. Mayor Bob Williams said the commissioners would give the ordinance second reading at their next meeting if everything is ready.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"File image.
