A Democrat state senator in Pennsylvania introduced an oddball bill last Wednesday seeking to legalize flying cars that aren\u2019t anywhere near being readily available for widespread public use.<\/p>\n

Flynn hit the ground running as early as January, where he announced in a memo<\/a> that he would be reintroducing the bill even after it flopped. In the note, he explained he was looking for eager co-sponsors to help make Pennsylvania \u201cone of the first states to introduce this revolutionary technology.\u201d <\/p>\n He managed to secure just two co-sponsors, according to the bill\u2019s status tracker<\/a>.<\/p>\n Flynn put forth the same bill during the last General Assembly session. AFP via Getty Images<\/p>\n In the memo, Flynn didn\u2019t hesitate to admit that the \u201croadable aircraft\u201d industry isn\u2019t \u201cfully realized,\u201d but insisted that there is still a \u201csignificant need\u201d for legislation like his to pave the way for urban and rural aviation technologies.<\/p>\n \u201cAcross the nation, advanced air mobility \u2014 a rapidly evolving sector within aviation that encompasses a range of innovative aircraft, technologies, and infrastructure \u2014 has the potential to generate new revolutionary transportation options and transform how people access essential services, like emergency and medical services, goods, and mobility across urban, rural, and regional communities,\u201d Flynn wrote.\u00a0<\/p>\n New Hampshire and Minnesota previously passed similar legislation regarding flying vehicles. Getty Images<\/p>\n \u201cAs technology continues to advance, the integration of these types of vehicles requires forward-thinking legislation that addresses operating and equipment requirements.\u201d <\/p>\n The state legislator added that it\u2019s important to start installing \u201ckey regulations\u201d early in order to make sure flying cars <\/a>\u201care integrated safely into existing traffic systems without causing disruption or safety hazards,\u201d according to the memo.<\/p>\n Other states and agencies have floated normalizing flying vehicles<\/a> \u2014 and fast.<\/p>\n The FAA previously approved a flying car for testing in 2023. Ron DeSantis and the state\u2019s Department of Transportation are advocating for the use of flying vehicles within the Sunshine State by the end of 2026.<\/p>\n Minnesota and New Hampshire already passed legislation recognizing flying cars as legal vehicles, and Transportation Secretary Sean Duffy also jumpstarted a flying vehicle pilot program in August.<\/p>\n \u201cThe next great technological revolution in aviation is here. The United States will lead the way, and doing so will cement America\u2019s status as a global leader in transportation innovation,\u201d Duffy said in a statement at the time. <\/p>\n In 2023, the Federal Aviation Authority approved<\/a> Space X-backed Alef Aeronautics\u2019 flying car<\/a> for road and air testing. <\/p>\n The car costs $299,000 \u2014 excluding additional pre-order deposits, according to its website.<\/p>\n
