During the last week of the MLB<\/a> regular season, the Philadelphia Phillies<\/a> decided to designate pitcher Jose Urquidy for assignment, basically cutting ties with the 7-year MLB veteran who has pitched for three teams this season.<\/p>\n Well, in a quiet roster move, the Phillies\u2019 former pitcher made a choice about his future.<\/p>\n The MiLB season is over, so there isn\u2019t exactly a minor-league team to be outrighted to at this moment.<\/p>\n More MLB on Heavy: Freddie Freeman Makes Honest Admission About Los Angeles Dodgers World Series Aspirations<\/a><\/p>\n Jose Urquidy Elects Free Agency According to his transactions tracker,<\/a> pitcher Jose Urquidy has elected free agency:<\/p>\n \u201cRHP Jos\u00e9 Urquidy elected free agency.\u201d<\/p>\n Urquidy was claimed off waivers from the Chicago White Sox<\/a> back in mid-September.<\/p>\n He pitched just 7.1 innings with the Phillies before being DFA\u2019d, and he allowed three earned runs in that span with nine strikeouts.<\/p>\n Jose Urquidy can now sign with any MLB team, although it will have to wait until the league year runs out, and free agency opens up.<\/p>\n MLBTR.com\u2019s Darragh McDonald wrote (about Urquidy):\u00a0<\/a><\/p>\n \u201cThe Phils grabbed him from waivers in September as they needed some innings to get through the regular season. Because he was acquired after the September 1 cutoff, he wasn\u2019t going to be playoff eligible for the Phillies. That makes it unsurprising that they cut him. It\u2019s also understandable that no one else bothered to claim him this time.
