About one in five people have been hospitalized.\n<\/p>\n<p>Nearly all cases involve unvaccinated people, according to health officials. That group can include infants who are not yet <a href=\"https:\/\/downloads.aap.org\/AAP\/PDF\/AAP-Immunization-Schedule.pdf\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">eligible<\/a> for the measles, mumps and rubella vaccine, which is <a href=\"https:\/\/www.aap.org\/en\/news-room\/fact-checked\/fact-checked-the-measles-vaccine-is-safe-and-effective\/?srsltid=AU7gw4VbP1OgcZLPFWI4VJu0gvLgrKlHZuI2ttt_M0dtbovfPEvss9ds\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">97% effective<\/a> in preventing a viral infection.\n<\/p>\n<p>There have been four recorded measles cases in vaccinated people, representing less than 1% of all infections statewide. State health leaders have said the number is in line with the vaccine\u2019s efficacy rate.\n<\/p>\n<p>The Pennsylvania Department of Health reported the state\u2019s <a href=\"https:\/\/whyy.org\/articles\/pennsylvania-measles-deaths-unvaccinated-lancaster-county\/\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">first two<\/a> measles-associated deaths in August. Both victims were <a href=\"https:\/\/apnews.com\/article\/measles-deaths-pennsylvania-infants-e8dc53eb687801720187a6cefb2ca392\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">infants<\/a> in Lancaster County.
