Governor Josh Shapiro (D) said that this tranche of funds is out of a total of $775 million from the state\u2019s Motor License Fund that will be disbursed over the next 18 months to repair state-owned roads quickly. This announcement builds on an anticipated $4 billion investment in infrastructure projects by the Pennsylvania Department of Transportation going out for bid this year, the governor noted.<\/p>\n

\u201cSince taking office, my administration has worked hard to rebuild Pennsylvania\u2019s infrastructure and invest in safer roads all across the Commonwealth, and we\u2019ve worked quickly to get stuff done,\u201d he explained in a statement<\/a>.<\/p>\n \u201cPennDOT has improved over 21,800 road miles and advanced work on nearly 2,000 state and local bridges and, as a result of the funding secured in this year\u2019s state budget, Pennsylvanians will see more miles paved faster than originally scheduled,\u201d Gov. Shapiro pointed out. \u201cI\u2019m committed to ensuring our communities have the modern transportation networks they need to continue to compete and grow.\u201d<\/p>\n Mike Carroll, PennDOT secretary, added that in early September his agency began work on three of those 79 \u201cRapid Deployment\u201d projects, including a paving project originally planned for 2027 on six miles of Route 77 in Crawford County.<\/p>\n \u201cEvery county in Pennsylvania will see additional paving over the next 18 months because \u2026 of the additional funding in this year\u2019s budget,\u201d he stressed. \u201cInvesting in these additional and expanded projects also allows PennDOT maintenance crews and funds to focus on other activities that help preserve our road and bridge system.\u201d<\/p>\n Other state departments of transportation are also providing financial support for local road projects.<\/p>\n For example, Alabama Governor Kay Ivey (R) recently said more than $3.8 million in state funding is being awarded to cities and counties for 13 road projects statewide; funds from the final 2026 disbursement of Alabama Department of Transportation\u2019s Annual Grant Program, created by the Rebuild Alabama Act. Two previous rounds earlier this year awarded over $11 million in additional state funding, bringing the total to $15 million for the 2026 fiscal year, the governor said in a statement<\/a>.<\/p>\n
